Domino’s launches facebook competition for designers to create the company’s next pizza box
Domino’s Pizza has put the call out today to its 670,000 Facebook fans and budding designers to help design the Company’s next pizza box.
Domino’s is running a competition on its Facebook page that will see one fan have their pizza box design seen by millions of pizza lovers across the country.
The idea for the competition came from the important role the pizza box plays in the customer’s pizza eating experience.
Enter competition via Domino’s Facebook page
Says Allan Collins, Domino’s chief marketing officer: “The pizza box is an integral part of the pizza ordering experience – it’s the first thing our customers interact with when they receive their order and it’s seen by thousands of people every day when they eat their favourite pizzas with their family and friends.
“Because of the important role both our pizza box and our customers play in the pizza eating experience, we thought it was only fitting to give fans the chance to be even more involved.”
As well as nationwide exposure for their design, the winner will receive a prize of one thousand dollars. The competition is open to any Australian resident over 16 years of age.
Domino’s is opening the competition up to people with all levels of creative abilities, with Collins saying that he expected the entries to be quite varied.
Says Collins: “We want entries from absolutely everyone and anyone, no matter what their creative abilities are.
“The winner will be the design that we feel best shows what Domino’s is all about – whether it ends up being a stick figure, crayon drawing or digital masterpiece, we’re just looking for something that captures what Domino’s means to our fans.”
The competition to design a pizza box is the latest in a string of Australian social media firsts for Domino’s, earlier this year developing a crowd sourced ‘Social Pizza’ where Facebook fans voted on ingredients for the ‘Fan Favourite’ pizza which still features on Domino’s online menu.
Says Collins: “We are always looking for innovative ways to reward and engage our loyal fans, and this design a pizza box competition is just another example of this.
“After the success we had with our Social Pizza application, it became clear that our fans love interacting with us through Facebook and appreciate the things we are doing in the social media environment, and it just makes us want to do bigger and better things to engage our customers.
“It was a natural progression for us, we had our fans build a pizza, so what’s next – let them design the pizza box that it comes in!”

“Loyal fans” LOL
Cheap bastards. $1000 is nothing for a design that is going to be printed possibly millions of times.
@Roger
No? That one is making something out of the box.
Can clients please just get over the whole ‘let’s get our customers to do it’ approach to ads please? Fark me I’m bored of it, and they’re too.
Show some integrity Dominos. This is a low life, cheap approach. Up the design winner to $30,000 and then you can brag.
Or make it a one off, special occasion, with the same amount of proceeds going to diabetes research. Anything.
It’s crap, exploitive rubbish.
Here’s one. How about a sketch of a clinically-obese, sad-faced toddler sitting in a dirty kitchen with two slices of Meat Lovers as his fucking dinner?
I reckon that pretty well nails ‘what Domino’s is all about.’
I guess I should win if I design one just like a Pizza Capers box since Dominos seem to be exactly copying Pizza Capers for every piece of design they do now.
Perhaps they’re missing BMF more than they know
The only appropriate design is a picture of vomit.
By far the WORST marketing manager I have ever worked with…
There’s an amazing contest application that you can put on your Facebook page, simple, cheap and easy to use: http://toptabapp.com/?r=4, my favorite!
Hmmm, they haven’t even fully moved the account in-house yet and they’re already our of ideas.
$1000 prize. Wow. How generous. Get what you pay for. Kind of like the product. Cheap / Fast / Good: pick two.
Hey Vomino, you only got it half right. Worst Human Being too.
What’s the difference between a designer and a pizza box?
Pizza box can feed a family of four.
Alright… I’ll get me coat.
