Sportsbet’s Louise Buson succeeds Adam McWhinney as digital director of The Australian
Louise Buson, former head of product development at Sportsbet, has been appointed digital director at The Australian, succeeding Adam McWhinney who left the company last year to join a start-up.
Buson reports to chief operating officer John Allan and will be responsible for all technical aspects of The Australian’s digital platforms and products including website, Apple and Android tablet applications and mobile site.
Buson joins The Australian from Sportsbet where she was head of product development, responsible for product development across the company’s website and mobile sites. In 2011 she led the relaunch of Sportsbet’s sites including the introduction of a new e-commerce solution which helped the company achieve major growth in a highly competitive category.
Buson began her digital media career as part of the online team at The Guardian in the UK, going on to work as a development producer for BBC New Media in London.
After moving to Australia in 2007 she joined Sensis as senior product development manager, responsible for the product strategy for whitepages.com.au.
Buson recently completed her MBA from the University of Warwick, adding to a Masters degree in computer science from the University of Birmingham.
Says Allan: “Everyone at The Australian is proud of the suite of digital products we created last year and it is clear that our readers agree – the rate of uptake of our digital subscription packages has exceeded our expectations.
“Louise is tasked with ensuring that we continue to innovate and deliver our world class journalism to our readers wherever and whenever they want it whilst building on our newly established subscription platform.”
