The commercial was created in the UK in 2D by db Communications and produced by Loki Productions. The ad was converted to 3D in post-production through Val Morgan.

The Staedtler Back to School campaign breaks in 3D on selected cinemas from Boxing Day.

Staedtler marketing manager, Margaret Savage, said: “Targeting families with a 3D ad shown prior to family movies was an ideal way to promote to our target Back to School audience. With cinema we reach a captive audience of parents and children together while they are enjoying themselves, and Summer is the key time of the year for our business. We wanted to make the most of the 3D cinema experience and the opportunity to take the campaign into 3D enabled us to continue to be innovative, a quality that Staedtler products are already recognised for.”

Says Val Morgan marketing director, Paul Butler: “3D is an exciting platform for advertisers; it adds further strength to cinema’s unique ability to deliver impact and engagement. The 3D production process is straightforward, ads can be created in 3D or adapted to 3D during post production. Now with over 680 cinema screens that are 3D enabled (40% of all screens) 3D provides advertisers with real scale.”

Recent research shows that 3D has been widely accepted by Australian moviegoers, 85% of moviegoers have seen a film in 3D, a number that is set to grow with the wealth of 3D movies scheduled for release in coming months.
