Poynton: much maligned Sapient agency video the work of Sapient India, not SapientNitro UK

Top Kiwi expat advertising creative Malcolm Poynton, chief creative officer of SapientNitro, London, says reports on Mumbrella and on Adnews – in fact twice (since corrected on AdNews but not Mumbrella) – in Australia that a much maligned Sapient agency YouTube video is the work of the agency’s UK office is untrue.
Poynton (right) told CB that he believed the video was created by Sapient India: “Nothing to do with SapientNitro London.”
CB has since discovered it was produced for Sapient Gurgaon (near New Delhi) by Studi-YO! Productions, which is Sapient’s digital media production capability set up at their new office in India.

Who cares it sucks. For a so called digital agency it’s an absolute embarrassment.

Why would Sapient Nitro London want to distance itself from this. It’s hilarious. Isn’t it what advertising people have always aspired to: being C grade pop stars.
Great example of why agencies should not attempt to do music or video production. Stick to the ideas guys.

What do you mean – it IS the idea that’s the bad part. The production is passable, if cliched, in comparison.
The only thing bad about this video is the choice of electric guitar. You simply can not shred with an Ibanez.
Try as you might to change it, this is how every agency look to outsiders.

While stubborn Mumbo still has this as a SapientNitro UK thing on its site, AdNews has now changed its intro paragraph:
“SapientNitro Mumbai has defended its self-spruiking promotional video, which was met yesterday with universal online derision.”
However, it’s still wrong as the agency is in Gurgaon (near Delhi), not Mumbai (no Sapient office there) and in India it’s Sapient, not SapientNitro!
