Optus takes off with Qantas in ‘flying elephant’ tvc via M&C Saatchi, Sydney launching Sunday
M&C Saatchi has created a major campaign to launch an exclusive alliance between Optus and Qantas.
The campaign debuts on air this Sunday with a TVC that will roadblock across all networks. Extensive outdoor, online, social media and print executions will follow, including an unprecedented eight-page wrap in Sydney and Melbourne commuter newspaper mX.
The campaign launches the new partnership that rewards Optus customers with up to two Qantas Frequent Flyer points for every dollar spent on most Optus services.
The partnership is a key part of Optus’ on-going commitment to reward customers with a heightened level of consumer experience.
The cutting-edge commercial was shot in northern South Africa, and finished by BUF Paris, who worked on the award-winning Optus ‘Secret Training Camp.’
Says M&C Saatchi executive creative director Ben Welsh: “Yet again Optus have backed us on a big, simple idea that launches a remarkable tie-up between two of the country’s largest clients.”
Adds creative director Andy Flemming: “It’s not often you get to shoot in the wilds of South Africa with zebras, giraffes and elephants just wondering around. For me, if it wasn’t for being smacked around with severe food poisoning followed by being bitten by a lion, it would have been absolutely perfect.”

Props for another big, simple spot for a big client.
Me Likey.
Two flying elephants in a week

So I pay about $20,000 in phone bills so I can redeem a bread maker worth 40,000 points.
Well, actually, two flying Elephants in two years.
July 9, 2009 that one ran.
I think we can give M&C this one.
Pretty soon M&C Saatchi will start earning qantas frequent flyer points for every dollar they pay in salaries when they present their everyday rewards card at woolworths.
Still, definitely beats ‘the fishes’ spot.
But Bib the IFAW one is running this week on Fox, hence two on air now
Another big ad faultlessly put together by Andy & crew.
They make it look easy. It’s not.
Kudos.
Did you guys fly to France to back slap each other at the clients expense on this one too? Wank.

Try to use hyphens and apostrophes. They help.
I had a pig that could do that, but elephants? CGI, surely.
miss
The type of real ad you see in sophisticated advertising markets but not in the ‘Harveynormous’ world we sadly live in. It gave me hope.
Very, very well put together. Congrats all. Saw it on telly last night. Stood out like Elephant’s balls.
‘how would that make you feel’?… what, if I was an elephant suddenly carted thousands of feet into the air by crazy birds, not very comfortable at all, I’d say. Stupid ad.
I’ve wanted to use Wagner in an ad for so long. Hitler would be proud.
Hitler liked coffee too.
I guess we should ban that from ads.
Dickhead.
When are you dinosaurs going to make something worth the 2 mil you spend on every one of these TVCs? Open Network campaign anyone? Ohh what about ‘Whales’?. Long live the freelance lifestyle.
same Director – same idea
