WCB_truck.jpgLeo Burnett Melbourne has been appointed by Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Co. as its lead strategic and creative agency following a pitch.

Warrnambool Cheese and Butter (WCB) is one of Australia’s largest milk processors and is the only listed dairy company in Australia. Its production facilities in Warrnambool, Victoria are responsible for producing specialty cheese, fresh milk, nutritional supplements, flavoured milk and other beverages.

WCB is a major exporter of dairy products, supplies to many of Australia’s icon brands in dairy, and markets its own retail brands — Sungold (milk), FM (flavoured milk) and Warrnambool (specialty cheese).

“This is an important time for our company. We have big ambitions to grow our own consumer product business over the next five years, and see opportunity in a number of dairy segments. Leo Burnett brings a wealth of strategic experience and creative firepower, which is what we need to help us realize that vision,” said David Lord, CEO of WCB.

Says Leo Burnett’s Melbourne CEO, Melinda Geertz: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us as an agency. WCB is at a real turning point, and their ambition is contagious. The Warrnambool brand has so much untapped potential.”

Last week, WCB announced the appointment of Richard Lange to head up marketing for consumer products. Lange has spent many years in agri-business, most recently as Head of Marketing and Communications for Dairy Australia.

The appointment of Leo Burnett Melbourne comes off the back of a string of new business wins for the agency, having recently added Giant, Satterley Property Group, The Arts Centre and Freehills to its client roster.
