Award-winning Aussie editor Zen Rosenthal lured to General Editorial in Santa Monica
Award-winning Aussie editor Zen Rosenthal has been lured from Sydney-based The Editors to General Editorial in Santa Monica. Rosenthal, who has worked on a diverse range of projects including commercials, documentaries, music videos, and short films, joins General Editorial’s team of editors: Noah Herzog, Matt Dunlap, and Addison James.
Says General Editorial E.P. Robert Parker: “We just felt an immediate rapport with him as a person. We’re really looking forward to introducing him to the US market.”
Working at The Editors in Sydney, Zen has collaborated with some of Australia’s leading ad agencies and production companies including Droga5, TBWA, M&C Saatchi, The Glue Society, Revolver Films and @radical.media. He shared a Pencil for Best Editing at the AWARD Awards for the VB ‘The Regulars’ commercial. The spot went on to win a Gold Lion at Cannes and a Yellow Pencil at D&AD.
Other career highlights include the acclaimed BBC/ABC documentary “How Kevin Bacon Cured Cancer,” for which Zen received the Australian Film Institute Award (Australia’s highest film honors) for Best Editing in a Documentary. Zen was also awarded The Australian Screen Editors Guild Award for Best Editing in a Short Film for “Bleeders” and edited the AFI-nominated and multi-award winning short film ‘fOUR.” He was invited to the Berlin International Film Festival to represent Australia at the Berlinale talent campus.
General Editorial is proud of its style of collaborative work with directors and agency creatives. Some of the directors who have worked with GE in 2011 are Max Malkin, Filip Engstrom, Brian Beletic, Jeffery Plansker and Stylewar. Recent projects include Verizon with McCann NY, Corona with Cramer-Krasselt Chicago, and Acura with RPA.

Cool concept for a pic.
Didn’t Bernard Garry cut the Regulars?
Never heard of this guy, but Bernard Garry cut the Regulars.
I know Zen from AFTRS. Good on him.
Mind you, I do remember hearing Zen talk at the pub about how he was “applying for jobs in the States”, while at The Editors so I wonder if this article is factual… How “lured” can someone be if they are applying to work at those facilities…

according to this website Mark Burnett cut the regulars.
No I am spartacus.
Zen is an extremely talented editor, easily the best I have ever seen, with unmatched technical proficiency. There is a lot more to Zen’s editing prowess than just trophy cabinets full of awards, he is truly peerless worldwide in his mastery of Final Cut Pro. Apparently Zen was also involved in a lot of the improvements in Final Cut Pro X, although I am surprised this article doesn’t point that out. He must have signed some kind of privacy agreement with Apple. Bernard must be truly honoured being compared to Zen, even though it was Bernard who cut The Regulars. Well done General Editorial at managing to lure Zen to the states.
Yep, Zen cut Regulars. Fantastic talent and a genuinely nice bloke.
WTF is going on at the Editors?
I just looked on their site, this guys not on there and Stewart is?
I thought he left months ago
Stewart is on The Editors site because he is represented by The Editors in Australasia and has been since he moved to LA.
I met Zen a few times at various ‘drinks’ functions and he is one of the most unassuming people I have met in this industry.
Considering the achievements listed in this article, Zencould easily have taken on the ego centric tossle that often oozes forth in Adland, but no. He didn’t even go close to pushing his agenda or any form of ego.
He was polite
Truly nice guy, seems he could cut well, and off he goes on a great adventure.
Good luck Zen.
Give the guy a break. Clearly he worked on the VB campaign, maybe not as the head editor, but involved nonetheless. Is it really that important?
Regardless of the VB debate – great editor, great guy.
Good on you for having at crack at the US market Mr Zen – good luck
