You’ll always find IKEA in the kitchen at parties: Mother, London spot to run in Perth and Adelaide
IKEA will launch a new integrated kitchen campaign on Sunday night in Perth and Adelaide only and will also run during the new series of Masterchef.
The television spot, created by Mother, London, features the 1980’s hit Jona Lewie song “You’ll Always Find me in the Kitchen at Parties”.
The campaign runs in Perth and Adelaide from April to August and incorporates press, magazine, point of sale and signage that features a new kitchen finance offer from IKEA. The spot shows people partying in four different IKEA kitchens to demonstrate the functional aspects of their design and durability. The soundtrack is performed by UK group Man Like Me and Jona Lewie makes a cameo in the commercial.
IKEA Perth marketing manager Nigel Richardson said: “We’re lucky at IKEA to be able to use a mixture of international and locally produced adverts. When we saw this advert we couldn’t go past it for our planned kitchens campaign and our agency Meerkats supported this decision.”
Richardson said to extend the campaign they’ve built an upside down kitchen in the Perth store and visitors to IKEA can photograph themselves to recreate a scene from the commercial.
It’s not the first time IKEA in Perth has utilised great existing commercials created overseas. Over recent years “Dog”, “Start the Car”, “Women’s Garage” amongst others have all run on local stations.
IKEA is a franchise operation in WA and SA and is not part of the Swedish owned group that operates the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane stores.

Nice to see Jona Lewie making a Hitchcockian appearance in the ad.

Hey 9:41. Here’s a joke my kid told me when he was 10 – about ten years ago:
What’s the opposite of Christopher Reeve?
Christopher Walken.
10.12 -nice one.
I’m sure I know a good Christopher Reeve joke, but I can’t remember it. Something to do with his slippers perhaps? Anybody know it?
Nice, Very Nice 10:12.
Love the song and love the fact that IKEA did this, v. cool.
Lipton stuff is good too, though the fact that it’s Hugh Jackman makes it cool.
Hats off to both creators.
