Bridget Mac receives inaugural $10k POOL Grant
POOL Productions has announced that Bridget Mac (pictured) as the inaugural recipient of the $10,000 ‘POOL Grant’ at the Sydney screening of Projections 2010 at The Chauvel Cinema in Paddington.
Founded in 2008 by top photographers Sean Izzard and Simon Harsent, POOL is a collective of photographers who share the common aim of creating world-class photography whilst inspiring and contributing to the wider community through visual art.
The POOL Grant was devised in keeping with their commitment to the development of new talent and run in association with ACMP and Projections 2010.
Open to students, assistants and photographers (in their first three years of shooting professionally) the $10,000 prize was awarded to assist research and produce a photographic project of their choice.
From a vast array of submissions received, Bridget’s idea to shoot portraits of creatives (artists, musicians etc) who grew up in the Eastern Bloc, in particular East Germany before the fall of the Berlin wall, combined with her technical photographic ability particularly stood out. Her resulting body of work will be presented at Projections 2011.
Unable to collect the award in person, Bridget sent a video acceptance speech from Iceland where she is currently working on another project.
