Mobile carriers could become virtual newsagents following a world-first deal, reports Lara Sinclair in today’s Media section of The Australian.
The deal will see Optus provide a subscription to The Australian’s paid newspaper app to customers who buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab from the telco on a 12- or 24-month plan.
The deal, which Optus will market as a newspaper delivered to customers every day for the length of their contract, is seen by the telco as a key point of difference that will attract customers looking to buy a tablet device for Christmas, reports Sinclair.

Buy an inferior product and they’ll throw in for free something you don’t currently pay for?
Awesome.
