I adore this
Love it. In every way I love this ad. The strategy, the writing, the direction, even the voice over is perfect. Well done.
Gold
Really smart, really good and really beautiful.
Anyone that can get a client to approve “Cockblocks’ in a VO deserves a medal.
Brilliant. One that the punters will love too.
Nice insight, beautifully shot, voiced, everything.
Love that the client even let the bottle smash when he missed his 3 pointer at the end.
Lovely work, cunts.
Wonderful.
this is goin’ all the way.
I like it a lot.
Its Puma’s version of VW Night Driving – and I loved that too.
You’re all going to hate me for saying this, and I hate myself a little bit, but doesn’t the tone feel really Bud Light?
Here’s to you Mr. After Hours Athlete.
Sorry, think it’s one of the best things I’ve seen in quite a while, but it just doesn’t feel fresh.
Well, it doesn’t. Sue me.
I like it a lot.
But not until I read the stupid and odd 12.18 comment would I have bothered to actually put in my own.
It’s a cracker.
Agree, nice but not fresh.
How can anyone look at this and think ‘wow, never seen anything like that before?’
Bah, who needs fresh. It got y’all all tingly and wanna go out and buy some poo-ma gear right?
Good ad…
Yep, that’s how you do it!
Nice one.
‘Fresh’ is such an overused bullshit term.
This isn’t ‘fresh’ if by that you mean there’s never been an ad like it in tone, treatment or direction.
But the insight and idea of nightime athletes playing fooz, running for cabs and kicking cans is ‘fresh’ and they’ve made it farkin beautiful.
Gold Cannes.
If this was Australian, Samuel Johnson would be doing the voice over and the end line would be ‘We’re for Pumas”. Or maybe “Wear for Puma’s” if McCanns did it.
the VO is a bit Miller Time, but I still love it.
Cracker. Its also a fresh new approach to cutting.
Sorry.
These are okay, but I really don’t think they’re as good as all the comments above would warrant.
fair enough 8.19. done anything you’d like to show us?
I too am very interested in the work 8:19 has been creating. It must be pretty special.
Great work.
It’s really good stuff because they took a cliched sporting reverential tone of voice to the whole business of going out, having a few drinks, and playing pub games. That’s why it works so well.
So anyone who complains that it “isn’t fresh” just doesn’t get why this is so good, and should immediately disqualify themselves from judging anything in the future.
What is it with fuckwits slamming stuff for not being fresh all the time? As if the only creative currency is ‘never been anything like it before’
Idiots.

@ 8:05 & 10:54
If you go to the cinema and see a film that you think is average, do you first have to make a better film yourself before you can offer an opinion?
This is a blog. People are entitled to their opinions. That’s the whole point. It’s fucking moronic to attack anyone who doesn’t share your point of view.
The cadence of the script made me think of ‘Think Different’ for Apple.
you guys should settle this over a beer and some ping pong.
You guys are getting very excited over this one. Must be the agency name as I can’t remember a montage getting so much love.
I do like the writing of the VO. But the idea of night athletes is bit average – borderline try hard. Someone mentioned earlier that it didn’t feel fresh. I tend to agree. Not saying it’s a copy or anything. I don’t have a link to attach. But every now and then some ads just tickle the familiar bone.
I don’t hate the ad. Just feel the glowing remarks are a little unbalanced.
It’s an ad for the apathetic Generation who clearly don’t have the sporting ability/motivation to become a ‘real’ athlete. Hardly inspirational.
Really?
Praise too glowing?
I’ll bet you a lamb kebab this cleans up at all the shows.
Bet’s on.
If this cleans up, I’ll be floored.
It’s like at least 2 dozen similar ads done in the last decade and a half.
Highly overrated, makes me worry about our local industry.
Are we that out of touch?
Although it’s a typical US ‘average narrative montage’ approach, this has as much to do with real men of genius as Milli Vanilli had to do with singing.
Real men of genius was hilarious. This, while patriotic and slightly patronising, was not.
beautifully written. made me actually want to go out.
some strange jealous people out there is adland.
“It’s morning again in America… And people are being paid to do the same ads as they were in 1984.”

Here’s to the lazy ones….
Like it a lot.
Good job.
Enough said.
This commercial, in my opinion, is gorgeous. Ringan Ledwidge is an absolute filmmaker and has made art out of little life moments – not many directors could do that. The idea of After Hours Athletes is so fresh and interesting. It may not be a highly conceptual commercial, but there’s a bigger picture and idea, and I think it’s wonderful in every way. It gets to the heart of everyone that watches it, and advertising isn’t just about impressing the ECDs of this business, it’s about getting into the heart and minds of the public – the people/consumers who really count. I’m a copywriter and I’m very envious of the creative vision. I believe – and I say “I” because this business is so subjective – that this is the work of a fantastic creative team and production house, so, Droga 5 and Rattling Stick deserve all the credit they receive.
Anyway, each to their own…
