The cloakroom is now open for business
Cloakroom, a new boutique music agency, founded by multi-instrumentalist and composer David Spall launched in Melbourne this month, offering a one-stop-shop for the advertising, film and television industries.
“Everything is done in-house,” explains Spall, “This means initial brainstorming of ideas – pen to paper, composition and arrangements, performance recording, mixing, and finally mastering to the required format for delivery.”
With a professional edge informed by Spall’s wide-ranging experience, Cloakroom will focus on creating resolved sonic brands in close consultation with their clients; redrawing the traditionally removed relationships between advertising agencies and composers.
It will also creates original music for film and TV productions.
Says Spall, “We are small but we work smart and relentlessly hard for our cooperative partners. I’d like to think that Cloakroom is the agency that people come to when they want something more than just ‘music’ behind their creative project. Basically, we aim to help creative decision makers communicate their message better via the relationship between image and sound.”
Harnessing the latest in digital recording technology and data delivery systems, Cloakroom can not only turn around high-quality compositions within tight deadlines but also has the flexibility to reconfigure product to suit a campaign’s changing requirements.

That’s not a pretentious PR shot, is it?
Oleaginous…
Look who’s selling tickets on themselves?
Shut up Ben.
Is that a weak smile or a slightly strained grimace?
Is that a genuine 60’s Gibson 335 or a faked up new one distressed to look like a collectable classic at the factory?
What a bell end.
I applaud anyone does music for ads for a living. It’s fucking tough, the briefs are always going to be bloody vague or generic and it’s normally the last thing considered in the process.
Old Gibson or not (judging by the sticker inside the f-hole it’s the real deal), all the detractors don’t know jack.

I don’t know Jack, but I’d rather him than this guy.
Hi. I’m ‘that guy’, and yes this is most obviously not an on the fly photo – I don’t carry a lobby chair and US custom 335 around ‘just in case’, so it is what it is – a PR shot. Of course it’s a cheesy shot, that’s the one that’s always picked. Oh well.
Someone hit the nail on the head: a last minute grab to get something out and yes – not even the photographer was going to coax a full smile! So I may have the ‘guy who stole christmas’ look in this one, but I’m not getting hung-up about it – can only laugh and really I’m just thankful the good folk here have posted the press release.
Cheers.
Ha ha, good one dude. Jeez Louise there’s some moronic comments here. I liked your website and the music is actually excellent. If the slack-jawed commentors pulled themselves from the gossip pages of Who Weekly and read the content then they might have something worth saying. So sick of bitchiness.
This guy is anything but pretentious, infact he’s one of the most talented musicians I know. You only have to listen to Vesuvius from the Lexus RC450h europe commercial to see the meticulous quality in his composing. Brilliant. Keep up the good work David, You will go far.
