Viscious @ Luscious International’s Ant McPhail one of AdFest’s ‘Fabulous Four’ new directors
ADFEST has selected this year’s ‘Fabulous Four’ directors, whose short films will premiere during ADFEST 2010.
The 2010 Fabulous Four are: Ant McPhail (left), director, Viscious @ Luscious International, Sydney; Pipat Siriruangsakul, assistant director at The Bandits, Bangkok; Rahul Md. Alindib Akbar, director, Dhaka; and Yas Shimizu, production manager/assistant director, Camp KAZ Productions, Tokyo.
Every year, ADFEST invites young directors, who have not directed morethan 6 films in their film careers, from around the region to create ashort film script based on a specific theme. This year’s theme is’REFRESH’, which is also the theme of ADFEST 2010, which takes placesin Thailand on 18-20 March.
In total, 32 directors from around the Asia Pacific submitted scriptsto this year’s Fabulous Four, but only four directors made the finalcut after being judged by the region’s most influential and respectedproducers and creative directors. The identities of the new directorswere kept anonymous from the jury members in the judging process.
Sydney director Ant McPhail of Viscious, a directors collaborative at Luscious International, initially studied Photography and Design at COFA before majoring in Digital Production & Post Production. His work has been commended by the likes of Marc Newson and his video art has been displayed at the Art Gallery of NSW.
In Bangkok, Pipat Siriruangsakul has a tremendous love for Asianculture, literature, photography, film, and music. He is an AssistantDirector at The Bandits production house in Bangkok.
Rahul Alindib Akbar is from Bangladesh. He began his career as anadvertising creative, and was a participant in Young Lotus 2007 and2008 at ADFEST, where he discovered his passion for film direction.
In Tokyo, Yas Shimizu is an aspiring director who left for the USA atage 16 and enrolled in Film Studies at the University of Utah. Here, heworked for Sundance Filmmaker’s lab as a production crew member and wasdevoted to making short films before moving to New York. In 2007 hemoved back to Tokyo and started working for Camp KAZ Productions, ledby Kazuyoshi Hayakawa, one of the most respected commercial directorsin Japan.
