In today’s Media section of The Australian Lara Sinclair has written a fine tribute on David Baker, who died last week aged 66. In 1976 media director Baker co-founded Sydney ad agency Schofield Sherbon Baker with creative director Leo Schofield and managing director David Sherbon. Says Sinclair: “Few in advertising can claim to have founded one of the most respected agencies of their time, let alone two, but David Baker’s successes crossed creative, media and cultural boundaries.”
A memorial service will be held at 11am this Friday (November 20) at Macquarie Park Crematorium in Sydney.

David’s most creative work in the end, had little to do with the business world: his extraordinary interaction with the artists of PNG and Vanuatu will live on for many years to come. He enabled many Australians to actually meet traditional carvers, weavers, the makers of tapa cloth, by his remarkable efforts and skills in entrepreneurship. OMIE, one of his most original exhibitions first shown at the Annandale Galleries Sydney, opens this week in Melbourne at the National Gallery of Victoria.
