Collis painting to be sold at charity art auction – plans to return to OZ from O&M Tokyo this month
The painting ‘L is for Listen’, by creative director, Mark Collis, will be sold at Art Sydney 09 in aid of the Alphabet Foundation. Collis is currently ECD at Ogilvy and Mather, Tokyo but will return to Sydney at the end of this month. He told CB: “I’m in discussions with a couple of people but it might be that I simply help out on projects directly for other agencies and clients.”
The Alphabet Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, which was set up by Collis and long time close friend Peter Lever, aims to assist in providing an education to displaced, underprivileged children in South East Asia. Funds raised will be used in the rebuilding of schools and provision of necessary equipment in areas such as the Thai/Burma border, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, where refugee camps have become permanent homes for hundreds of thousands of people.
Collis is one of 26 Australian artists, sports and television personalities who have created individual and collaborative art pieces based on the letters of the alphabet. The works will be sold in a silent auction at Art Sydney 09 and all of the monies raised will go to fund the establishment of schools for displaced children. Other names include Adam Cullen, Anthony Lister, Richard Allen, Vince Frost, Peter Garrett, and Brad Munro.
Collis was previously ECD at Leo Burnett Sydney and known for campaigns such as ‘Pommies’ for Bundaberg and ‘Inner Child’ for McDonalds, as well as the award winning original ‘Earth Hour’ campaign for WWF. He is currently ECD at Ogilvy and Mather, Tokyo but will return to Sydney in October.

I know Mark was ECD on Earth Hour but I’d love to have been in the room when Earth Hour was cracked.
It must have been fucking busy in there. At least thirty people have it on their reels.
If Mark was the ECD then I guess he more than anybody deserves to have it on his reel? Fuck it, the mans done enough brilliant work for other clients it really shouldn’t matter.
If his new mission is 1% as successful as Earth Hour maybe he will make a difference.
Really good cause by the sounds of it. Been to some of these areas…..very sad. Well done Mark & Co.

Any chance of making the blog an Earth Hour Free Zone for 12 months?
The whole thing’s getting out of hand.
I visited my 80 year old mum yesterday and even she claimed she wrote it!!

The painting is dope. Especially the part about the drumming kids going past “much of the time.” Really like that part.
Well done Mark – great to see you’re doing more good things in your spare time! And to those who mock, why not put your energy into doing something useful instead of criticising!
Marks a good egg. And made it in Japan albeit briefly for reasons those that know, know. When you hacks create a lightbulb, hold it up to the sun that shines out of marks pig pencil.
Love this authentic creativity. Should be more of it.
Nice work Mark! Good luck with the new endeavour.
