How RARE tried to save the daylight
Western Australiamay have voted against daylight saving again, but there was one man whodid his utmost to try and save it, with a passionate plea to the Novoters: Oskaar from Iceland.
Perth agency RARE was approached by FORMto develop a piece of communication that would encourage people toengage in the daylight savings debate and ultimately vote Yes. Becausethey wanted to reach a younger demographic it was agreed that viral wasthe best approach. So RARE created Oskaar. He’s Icelandic and makes adesperate plea to the people of Perth to ‘Save the daylight!’

RAREshot the movie with director Sam Barrett and Sauce productions. Usingthe pseudonym Davedockerslover, it was uploaded to You Tube, with alink to the clip sent out via email. To add a perception ofauthenticity no reference to FORM was used in the clip or the email.

Of course it didn’t work, the vote was for the status quo. But don’t blame this nice little idea.
Unfortunately, the only way to get those WA rednecks to vote for daylight savings would be for the Eastern states to reject daylight savings. Most of them are so mind-numbingly parochial over there, they do things simply to be different to the rest of the nation.
FNQers are no better either.
