Jack Nimble to launch paid summer internship for aspiring creatives, producers + strategists
Social-first creative and production agency, Jack Nimble, has today announced the launch of its latest summer internship program, with passionate, aspiring creatives, producers and strategists encouraged to apply.
The summer internship program, at Jack Nimble’s Haymarket office in Sydney, will run for eight weeks, with three successful candidates selected to work part-time with the Jack Nimble team.
Jack Nimble launched its highly successful internship program in September last year, with 14 interns already completing the program.
Half of the intern cohort have gone on to extended freelance contracts or full-time roles with the agency, proving its success in discovering emerging industry talent.
Says James McInnes (pictured), Managing Partner at Jack Nimble: “Our internships are the perfect place for emerging industry talent to see how media, strategy, creative and production come together.
“Our interns work on real campaigns for some of the nation’s top brands, allowing them to walk away with a killer portfolio. They’re also exposed to a true intersection of creative and production, with the chance to meet creatives, social media managers, strategists, shooters and editors.
“We’re incredibly proud of this initiative. It’s our contribution to shaping the future of the industry, at a time when many agencies are replacing junior roles with AI, or subject to hiring freezes.”
Jack Nimble will take on three interns each quarter. The paid internships are available across four different streams: strategy, creative, production and post, with each area offering structured rotations, individual mentoring and responses to genuine client briefs.
The creative internship is designed for budding writers and art directors, with a focus on copywriting, script writing, art direction, presentation and social media best practice, while post-production is for those keen to pursue a career exploring editing, shooting, design, animation, scheduling, file management and social best practice.
The new strategy internship is designed for the endlessly curious, with a focus on research, insights, briefing, writing, presenting and turning business problems into creative opportunities. While production is for those who love making things happen, assisting with schedules, casting, locations, shoot planning, call sheets and how a production gets from idea to set.
All successful applicants will enjoy one-to-one mentorship, with each intern paired with an experienced staffer for weekly check-ins, feedback and craft tips.
Applications are open to all Australian and New Zealand advertising, marketing, design or production students and graduates, along with self-taught creators and career-switchers who are passionate about the industry, and keen to progress their skills at Jack Nimble.
Applicants are encouraged to apply online, with successful candidates then shortlisted for interviews with the agency’s creative and production teams.
Says McInnes: “This is a real passion project for me because it’s how I got my start. I started my career with an internship at EMI Records in the A&R department and won the V Raw Internship at Sneaker Freaker, which was basically my dream job of reading about sneakers all day. That gave me the start of a portfolio and connections in an industry that I loved and wanted to work in. It’s amazing how far that goes early on and the doors it opens.
“As we prepare to celebrate almost a decade in business, we’ve developed a strong team of incredibly talented and experienced leaders. We’re committed to training and managing teams, and as part of that, we’re keen to create and foster a fresh take on traditional agency culture.
“Starting a career is challenging and seeing all the rhetoric in the news about AI taking away the need for junior roles is so short-sighted. The majority of what we make is for young, socially-minded audiences, so it’s crucial that we are bringing young people into our agency, hearing their ideas, learning from them, and having them in the room with our clients.”
Jack Nimble Junior Art Director, Amber Dempsey, who was a previous intern, says: “As a creative intern, I was given a real mix of exciting projects, plus the freedom and support to let my ideas shape work for a range of clients. I came straight out of university looking to dive into the creative deep end and I was fortunate enough to find that environment at Jack Nimble.”
