The Busker Irish Whiskey launches “Triple Sessions” in Japan via Curious Nation

Australian and New Zealand brand activation agency Curious Nation has partnered with The Busker Irish Whiskey to bring its ‘Whiskey Made for Music’ proposition to life in Japan.

The Busker Irish Whiskey, produced at Royal Oak Distillery in County Carlow, Ireland, has strengthened its investment in Japan as a strategic growth market, launching ‘The Busker Triple Sessions’, a culturally-led music platform that brings the brand’s proposition to life through live performance, immersive experiences and a content first approach.

Curious Nation worked with client Disaronno International, in partnership with Japanese distributor Whisk-e, for The Busker Triple Sessions. Developed specifically for the Japanese market, it blends local music culture with The Busker’s triple cask story to build brand awareness, product trial and long term consumer affinity.

Rather than importing a global music artist, The Busker Triple Sessions has been built around Japan’s thriving live music scene and popular whiskey culture, collaborating with local artists and venues to create an authenticity that resonates with consumers.

Curious Nation led strategy, creative development, event design and production, content strategy, design and production, social media ecosystem development and end to end campaign delivery in Japan. While Massive Music partnered with Curious Nation on talent and licensing engagement.

Says Gareth Brock, head of strategy ANZ from Curious Nation: “The strongest brand experiences don’t interrupt culture, they contribute to it. Rather than simply sponsoring music, we wanted to create something that gives artists a stage to tell their stories while naturally expressing what makes The Busker distinctive. By translating the brand’s triple cask credentials into a creative expression, we’ve built a platform that feels authentic to both the whiskey and Japan’s vibrant music culture, creating something with the potential to grow well beyond a single campaign.”

The campaign launched at Tokyo’s renowned Music Bar Cave in Shibuya featuring Japanese singer-songwriter, luvis. A second event at Music Bar Cave featured TENDRE, the solo musical project of Japanese multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer, Taro Kawahara, with the final session taking place in Osaka in October.

Inspired by The Busker’s Triple Cask credentials: Triple Cask, the craft; Triple Smooth, the taste; and Triple Sessions, the experience; Curious Nation translated The Busker’s story into a series of performances structured around three musical chapters: ‘Origins’, which celebrates a song that influenced the artist. ‘Now’, which showcases a song that defines them today; and ‘Blend’, a new interpretation that brings their influences together.

Each event also doubles as a content curation opportunity, generating artist interviews and behind the scenes storytelling featuring across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and The Busker’s owned channels.

Every venue was also transformed into the world of The Busker through Triple Session branding, bespoke lighting, branded glassware and signature Busker highballs, designed to offer intimate and authentic music discovery rather than a branded event. On-premise activity also included promotional game-cards linked to highball purchase and instant win prizes.

In addition the campaign extended off-premise with retail promotions attached to Busker bottle purchases, limited edition packaging and a chance to win Busker branded speakers.
