Uber Eats delivers democracy snags to voters missing out in new campaign via Special
As tens of millions of Australians head to the polls this weekend, thousands will miss out on their post-vote bite of choice: the humble Democracy Sausage.
A sizzling symbol of election day and a beloved Aussie tradition, the sausage sizzle is a rite of passage. But not every polling place will be firing up the barbecue, leaving plenty of voters without their much-loved post-ballot bite.
To help fill the gap, Uber Eats has launched a new campaign created by Special, starring adopted Aussie and celebrity chef Iain “Huey” Hewitson, who’s cooked up a juicy plan to ensure voters in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane can still get their hands on a snag this weekend.
The campaign film was directed by Josh Mullins through Machine Studio.

“Elections are a serious business and a cherished part of Australian culture, so bringing a bit of fun to this moment was right up my alley,” said Iain Hewitson. “I’m pleased to don my sausage suspenders to help ensure finding a Democracy Sausage is still possible this year – even in areas where the local school might not be turning over these tasty morsels. It was part of my sausage manifesto, and I hope to prove on Saturday that promises made are promises delivered.”
On the menu? A classic selection of meat and vegetarian snags, served on bread with a choice of mustard, barbecue or tomato sauce – plus the option to add cooked onions. Each sausage will be packaged in a limited-edition container and available via Uber Eats for $3.50. Fees apply.
“For those able to support a local sausage sizzle, I encourage you to do so – that’s what I’ll be doing,” said Uber Eats Australia Managing Director, Ed Kitchen. “But if you’re missing out on a Democracy Sausage in your area, you can still bite the sausage sideways knowing $3.50 from each order on Uber Eats will be donated to the Australian Red Cross this election day – now that’s democracy manifest.”
To support local fundraising efforts, the Democracy Sausages will only be available for order after 12 noon, and only while stocks last, in select areas across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
