Ken Buchan departs creative lead role at BIG W for creative director role at BRX Sydney

Ken Buchan has joined BRX Sydney as Creative Director after more than three and a half years as Creative Lead at BIG W.

Buchan joins BRX Sydney as the independent agency continues to push the boundaries of brand and technology, working with clients like Optus and Australia Post while leading innovation in AI, automation, and performance at scale.

At BIG W, Buchan built and led the creative team, spearheading the retailer’s most successful Toy Sale campaign to date—featuring animated toys from iconic brands like LEGO, Mattel, and Disney. He also oversaw the brand’s social media presence across Meta, Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, and YouTube, developing platform-specific, engaging content.

Throughout his career as a strategic copywriter, Buchan has played a key role in revitalising major brands across sectors including financial services, insurance, retail, airlines, and FMCG. His portfolio includes work for Apple, ANZ, CommBank, Mastercard, PepsiCo, Tourism New Zealand, and Singapore Airlines, among others.

Buchan was also responsible for crafting the narration for National Geographic’s acclaimed Canon: Tales by Light series and penned scripts for two animated war films at the Sir John Monash Centre in France, bringing the heroic efforts of WWI diggers to life for museum visitors.

Announcing his new role on LinkedIn, Buchan added: “I’m lucky to be surrounded by an insanely talented crew all pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Can’t wait to get stuck in, stay across this evolving beast, and create some magic!”

In addition to his creative leadership, Buchan is passionate about mentoring the next generation of talent, having tutored students at AWARD School and ADMA.
