Spotify’s new video podcast features to drive big growth for Aussie creators and fans

As Spotify’s founder and CEO, Daniel Ek, takes the stage in Los Angeles to announce a major product update, Australia stands front and center in the platform’s rollout strategy. This morning, Ek revealed a host of new video podcast features designed to enrich the experience for both creators and fans, with Australia set to be one of the first markets to enjoy these updates.

Driven by booming demand, with over 250 million users streaming video podcasts and a 50% annual increase in active video content creators, Spotify’s latest offerings like creators.spotify.com aim to help creators grow and monetise their video podcasts. Popular shows like The Joe Rogan Experience, Call Her Daddy, The Diary of a CEO, and What Now? with Trevor Noah have made Spotify a top destination for video podcasting. Now, new features such as ad-free streaming for Premium subscribers, improved creator monetisation, and streamlined viewer experiences aim to make video podcasting on Spotify better than ever.

As part of a global wave, Aussies can now dive deeper into video podcasts, with viewing stats and engagement here up significantly. In fact, Australia is now the largest market for Spotify podcasts across the Asia-Pacific region with video podcast consumption in Australia soaring by 11% in the past year. This rise has been bolstered by a 40% increase in monthly video podcast listeners, with local creators seizing the trend—video publishing for podcasts by Aussies jumped over 60% this year alone.

Spotify’s newly introduced Partner Program will soon allow creators in Australia to earn from both premium subscriptions and ad revenue. This feature, launching in January, enables eligible creators to unlock new streams of income through dynamic ad placements and view-based revenue from Spotify Premium subscribers. Aussie listeners on Premium will also enjoy uninterrupted streaming, another feature rolling out next year, making it easier than ever to enjoy content without interruptions.

On the user experience side, a sleek Seamless Streaming option lets fans switch between listening and watching video without missing a beat, whether they’re on a free or premium account. Additional tools include Podcast Clips to help creators showcase their episodes with short-form previews and custom thumbnails, ideal for catching the eye of new listeners.

For Australian fans, the update brings a smoother, more immersive experience, especially as interest in popular genres like politics, horror, business, and conspiracy theories continues to surge locally. With these changes, Spotify is shaping the future of Australia’s podcast landscape, delivering more for both creators and listeners as the platform continues to expand its offerings across the country.
