Composer Ack Kinmonth scores ARIA nomination, making waves in film and advertising

Queensland composer Ack Kinmonth has been nominated for an ARIA Award in the Best Original Soundtrack or Musical Theatre Cast Album category for his work on Scarygirl—marking a significant milestone in his already impressive career.

Known for his contributions to film, TV, and advertising, this nomination solidifies Kinmonth’s place as one of Australia’s most versatile and creative composers.

Kinmonth’s career spans more than a decade, and his scores have graced a host of projects, including ABC’s Big Weather, the beloved Bluey, and The Sloth Lane, which earned him his fourth APRA Screen Music Awards nomination.

Says Kinmonth: “I’m truly honoured to be recognised by such a prestigious institution as ARIA. Being nominated for my film work is incredible. Working across different media has honed my ability to create original and distinctive scores. The creatives behind Scarygirl were looking for something fresh, and I’m thrilled that the music resonated so strongly with their vision.”

Kinmonth first caught international attention when he became the first Australian composer to write a featured song for the iconic children’s show Sesame Street, with his track “5 Kangaroos” featuring Jessica Mauboy.

Kinmonth’s work in advertising has been just as influential. He’s created award-winning music for major campaigns with brands like Subway, Supercheap Auto, The Lott, and Darrell Lea. With 22 BADC awards to his name, his compositions have become staples in both Australian and international advertising landscapes.

Kinmonth’s ARIA nomination not only highlights his growing influence in film, but also underscores his unique ability to elevate brand storytelling through music.
