“Hey Avo. Dip This”: Doritos responds to Australian Avocados’ call for stronger corn chips in cheeky campaign via VaynerMedia + TRIO
Today Doritos has responded to Australian Avocados full-page ad in The Daily Telegraph with its own full-page ad in the same publication with the cheeky tagline “Hey Avo. Dip This” created by VaynerMedia and TRIO.
The original ad from Australian Avocados and creative agency Thinkerbell saw the brand demand for the corn chip industry to do better and create a stronger corn chip on National Avocado Day (31st July) that won’t break when holding guacamole.
Doritos solution stems from its brand-new XXL range featuring out of this world bigger, crunchier, and bolder chips* – ideal for holding more guacamole than ever.
And to serve it up, Doritos XXL’s new flavour – Tangy Salsa – is the perfect combination.
Says Kat Miller, senior brand manager, Doritos ANZ, PepsiCo: “We heard Australian Avocados’ plea to the corn chip industry to forge a stronger corn chip worthy of guacamole.
“Perhaps they were not aware…Doritos recently launched our brand-new XXL range featuring bigger, thicker chips, with even more crunch and even bolder flavours including Tangy Salsa.
“Our Doritos XXL Tangy Salsa is the perfect pairing with creamy guacamole. And we checked, it won’t crumble under the weight of guac.”

1-0 – Doritos
How uncanny. The same publication. Just two days apart. How clever. Surely couldn’t be that Thinkerbell are also the agency for Doritos. What a cheeky little ruse that would be.
N/A
love it
Nobody. Not one.
They certainly aren’t…but wouldn’t that be a hilarious end to the story
Two day turnaround in a newspaper is….impressive
the daily telegraph must be counting their lucky stars…is news print back?! LOL
When it comes to awards entries, news print is back baby!
If this was Thinkerbells intention, well done. And well done to Doritos for getting a turn around back so quick. Was this an in-house job?
And will aus avocados respond again? Also is this campaign just for ad folks? If so I’m not mad…
Vayner does print, I’ve seen everything now
As if this wasn’t completely strategised by Thinkerbell. No agency in this country can turn around anything within 2 days.
seems like Vayner can. kudos.
Apparently they can.
The bants are giving primordial
I’m not interested until Bega cheese respond
Well done. I love it. I’m certain the Olympics was written somewhere in the brief. Glad you didn’t entertain it.
They’re not corn-shaped cutlery, nor simply a mode of delivering other food items into one’s mouth.
I would suggest making better guacamole instead of buying the stuff you get from the store and expecting a small, crunchy, glorified tortilla to save you.
Quac speed!
