Check out the ‘Technology’ category. One of the entries is the Sphere in Las Vegas. I mean, imagine being notified you’re a finalist and looking to see what you’re up against. “Oh, no problem. It’s just the fucking SPHERE!”
In the fine tradition of all those ‘game changing’ tech prototypes that show up at Cannes, and nowhere else.
Did the SCA Animal Repeller Black (2 pack) I bought from Supercheap Auto for $8.29 win anything?
..and you didn’t buy them.
You searched for them so you could post here. Brilliant, go to the top of the class.
Good idea. Could work if funding continues. Could spark a bit of change. Could be something to celebrate. Nah, you are right, let’s just post links of comparisons that will make the jury reconsider the short list.
But one get one free

Why are we prototyping a product that already exists in market and is currently sold at Supercheap Auto, BCF and Autobarn.
Let’s try to solve problems that need solving.
Of course I didn’t buy them. But after a very quick search, I could have. Or countless other examples of exactly the same thing. Isn’t that the point?
And I do have friends. Lots of them. So there.
Who’s a clever buoy then? Said no-one.
This is the kind of inward-looking work that may help careers, but will ultimately destroy the industry.
Dear Client says,
Too late I’m sorry.
Patts. Gone.
Mojo. Gone.
Y&R. Gone.
Mattingly. Gone.
Campaign Palace. Gone.
JWT. Gone.
Masius. Gone.
Singleton’s. Gone.
Lintas. Gone.
Grey. Gone.
Clems. Halved.
M&C. Halved.
……… Gone. Halved. Merged.
And the industry’s solution?
Ideas that no-one asked for, that no-one knows about…….
…..EXCEPT award juries.
It’s ‘adland fiddling while advertising burns’.
The people who celebrate
Self-congratulatory work that does nothing for client, consumer or our industry… but will further a few individual careers.
Enjoy Cannes!
