Director Yianni Rowlands teams up with Positive Ape for MIFF fundraising campaign
Local young gun director Yianni Rowlands has teamed up with creative content agency Positive Ape on an exciting new video for the Melbourne International Film Festival’s fundraising appeal. The video is currently live on the festival’s homepage and will feature as a pre-roll during the festival.
A rhythmic montage of film themed prompts, the 20-second video acts as a unique visual mnemonic for the campaign tagline “this is your cue”. The prompts build to a surreal climax in Melbourne’s prestigious Astor Theatre, drawing subtle influence from Czech filmmaker Jan Švankmajer and the Dadaists.
Says Rowlands: “My goal was to create something punchy, exciting and distinctive that would get people rearing to support and be a part of the festival again, post-pandemic. MIFF has historically been a stomping ground for industry heavyweights and a major support and kick-off point for up-and-coming independent filmmakers, like myself. It was a great experience piecing this puzzle together with the team, and I’m looking forward to many future collaborations with Positive Ape.”
This campaign video marks a new partnership between Rowlands (pictured below) and Positive Ape, with upcoming projects slated for production in the coming months.
