Accounting platform Xero chops Australia’s big mango in half in new campaign via Hello Social
Online accounting platform Xero is sending a big message to all Australians in a new campaign via Hello Social.
The campaign sees Australia’s Big Mango and other ‘big things’ chopped in half to draw attention to the problem of late payments and how they’re seriously impacting Australian small businesses.
Late payments cost the small business economy more than $1.1 billion a year. Data shows over half of invoices issued by small businesses were paid late in 2021, and around 10% were paid more than a month after they were due.
Xero has enlisted Lee Lin Chin (who has come half out of retirement) to break the news of its “Pay It, Don’t Delay It” initiative which is giving small business owners waiting on a late payment or a consumer who’s paid on time the chance to win up to $2,000 back from a $150,000 prize pool.
Sam Kelly, managing director, Hello Social: “Aussie’s claim they don’t do things by halves, but we’ve seen when it comes to small business payments, that’s certainly not the case. We wanted to create a visually symbolic representation of this big issue by applying the same logic to Australia’s big things! You can’t live life by halves. This witty tongue in cheek stunt and the subsequent social coverage and consumer competition aim to draw awareness of the issue and start to change behaviour.”
Small business owners and consumers can submit their proof of payment and invoice here to be in the running to win. The competition is open until 23 March 2023.

not another ‘big thing’ thing
It’s overdue.
THE CHIN. She’s iconic. Love it.
God, even after the unsuccessful stolen mango stunt by Nandos? That’s a lot of budget to waste on a bad experiential idea from a social agency. Brands, leave the mango alone!
Creativity doesn’t only come from festy old adland ECD’s
AIMCO Awards don’t count given about 8 agencies and brand currently enter
This is great…the end got me
Saw it on 7 news in Brissy. Looks to be working pretty well! Congrats guys.
Meh. This idea is in every junior creatives first round of ideas for a brief. Push harder and take your thinking deeper guys. You can do better than settle with a first thought.
As MYOB and Xero battle for the accounting software market, neither of them are helping their case with great advertising. Yet another missed opportunity.
But this is not an ad…. It’s a social activation….. And pls leave Howatson+Company out of it. We MOYOBEEEEEEELIEVE
Bit of fun…. Issue into solve into creative build. Few glass half fulls of milk above too 😚🥛
i don’t like SoCiAl AgEnCiEs
No idea who hello social are but this was simple and funny…
Thought I recognised those ducet tones…great talent pick
Simple, love it.
Love that big tech are actually doing something about this problem…late payments impact everyone, and this is a simple get with a good pay off. Bravo everyone
Great strategy. Small business software that is championing a pain point of small business. The execution however is grim. LLC is a national treasure but a terrible spokesperson, there are multiple ideas in here and none of them are good, the execution feels like a powerpoint demonstration.
There’s quite a lot going on in this idea. I wonder if the ‘Big Things’ part of this could’ve been ditched to make it a clearer story? If it was just LLC coming ‘half’ out of retirement to give a ‘half’ news report on how a lot of SMB transactions are only ‘half’ complete, I think I’d be able to digest it a lot easier without choking on a big mango seed.
