Scoundrel’s Tom Noakes wins 2022 ADG Award for Best Direction in a Commercial Advertisement

Tom Noakes took out the coveted award at the Australian Director’s Guild awards last night for helming his delightfully surrealist “Spiral in the Diner” spot for Mattress Firm out of Droga5 NY and produced through Prettybird.
Says Noakes: “I’ve been doing ads now for a long time, over a decade, so it’s a pretty big win. Most of the other nominees are friends and they all do amazing work so it’s lovely to be recognised around good crew.”
Of the six finalists, three were Scoundrels with Michael Spiccia nominated for Hyundai Tucson “Tomorrow Wants Its Car Back” via Innocean and Tim Bullock nominated for Gulf Western “Lone Rider” via The Monkeys.
Noakes is represented by Scoundrel in Australia and NZ. His commercials, music videos and short films often catapult audiences into the odd and unexpected. His creations have earned him numerous awards including a Gold Ciclope award for best Direction, a Silver Clio, features on USA Today, Wall Street Journal, AdWeek, Vice, millions of online views and (his personal favourite) the front page of reddit.

This really well done.
Great spot. Cheered me up.
Such a good spot. Sad to hear no Aussie client will be able to afford Tom after this!
Noakes hasn’t worked in Australia for years simply because we don’t make the type of ads he makes.
