Petbarn launches new brand platform ‘Pets Love Petbarn’ via Howatson+Company
Howatson+Company has revealed a new brand platform for Petbarn that sees the world through the eyes of the retailer’s number one customer – pets.
Says Nick Adams, chief customer officer, Petbarn: “There are three fundamental truths that make Petbarn unique – pet parents love what we do for them and their pets, our staff are absolutely passionate about pets, and we know that pets simply love Petbarn. Petbarn is a mecca for pets, they sniff out our stores on their walks, and no amount of lead-tugging will get them to move once they’re there. Our new Pets Love Petbarn platform is more than an advertising campaign, it is the organising idea that brings our entire business together.”
From a dog that eats its way into trouble to an overly domesticated house cat to a guinea pig that struggles with pronunciation, the ads breathe new life into Petbarn’s brand icons, giving them unique and adult personalities. They were directed by Max Barden (Sweetshop) and voiced by some of Australia’s best comedians including Sam Simmons and Michelle Brasier.
Says Gavin Chimes, executive creative director at Howatson+Company: “It’s so rare for a brand to have an identity that’s as iconic and ownable as Petbarn. It was only right that we leant into it. By giving their lovable characters grown-up, modern personalities, we’ve created a platform that can entertain and inform for years to come. One that can’t be mistaken for anything other than Petbarn.”
‘Pets Love Petbarn’ premieres via a launch campaign running across all major screens.
‘Pets love Petbarn’ is being rolled out across every part of the business. It will be embedded across all customer, retail and advertising channels. It even forms the basis of team recruitment.

That’s pretty flat and unimaginative work from an agency that’s set a pretty high standard
Super Cute!
copy and paste AHM insurance work and add yellow.
4 creative directors?
How did they think of this line?
“does it look like it’s humping the V?” “Yeah, let’s add some lovehearts” “Now it’s just passionately humping the V.” Etc.. cute simple work tho and I love petbarn (not enough to hump the V)
but without the charm. what a shame.
They killed “Life’s a treat” for “Pets love Petbarn”?! Yuck.
What’s not to love? Hilarious.
Amazing! Love it!!
You’re one of the few brands that can legitimately use animals in your comms and you decide to create cheap animations with no tone. Massive fail.
How did BMF have such a short run at this client? The Life’s A Treat work was great.
Nice move on with original concept created by Landor.
Every pet brand out there uses animals the same way. This feels fresh compared to a very tired and generic category. In case I haven’t made it clear, I like it.
These comments are lame town. Amazing work. Love it!
Compare to a similar style campaign and say it’s not as good…check
Animation is such a unique idea this must be a copy of the AHM campaign (which was done by monkey’s wasn’t it?)
It’s not just ‘animation’. They’ve used similar voices. Similar delivery. Similar humour. Similar structure.
Are pretty funny
Not the bad breath one, but the others are funny, eps the wagging tail.
Yeah, like em.
Real animals? Pfff, real animals are awful
It’s like if Bluey was poorly written and not at all funny or charming in any way.
Woof woof!!!
Dog lovers will love this.
with Labradors aged 21-35
It’s a dog.
Pets love Petbarn is an “organising idea”? Oof.
God you guys are miserable.
Plenty of mushy pseudo stock footage work in this category. These are fun. Nice selection of comedic talent as well.
Incredible work – Nice one Max!
