Sharon Strzelecki is the unlikely hero of Google’s new Pixel 7 campaign via 72andSunny
Iconic Australian Sharon Strzelecki reveals herself to be the unexpected hero on a day out with her netball team, in this latest Google Pixel 7 spot by Google Australia and 72andSunny, with PHD Australia and EssenceMediacom.
Following the recent launch of the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, Google Pixel Buds Pro and the Google Pixel Watch – the first smartwatch built inside and out by Google – the goal was to communicate to Australians that Google’s Pixel ecosystem of products just got even stronger and more helpful. To showcase just how helpful these devices (collectively named ‘The Google Pixel Collection’) can be, Magda Szubanski reprises her role as the beloved Australian character Sharon Strzelecki to demonstrate some of Pixel’s most innovative features in action.
Helmed by award-winning comedy director Al Morrow from Rabbit, the films follow the surprisingly tech-savvy Sharon and her netball team as she orders on behalf of her group in fluent Japanese, sets netball drill reminders effortlessly, and uses the Magic Eraser feature to erase a rival player from her team photos. Rack off Rochelle!
Says Genevieve Hoey, creative lead, 72andSunny ANZ: “Sharon Strzelecki is Australia’s most loved every-person. To see her effortlessly use these sleek Google Pixel products in her day-to-day proves that we can all do it too. In real life, Madga has this incredible passion for tech. You can see that enthusiasm come through in Sharon and all the beats she delivers in this spot. Our director Al cleverly made sure there was plenty of space for Madga’s improv, and we were all in stitches on the set. It was an honour, and the realisation of a long-held dream, to work with both Madga and Sharon.”
Says Julia Davis, head of devices and services marketing, Google AUNZ: “Sharon was the perfect partner to showcase how helpful our new Pixel 7 phones, Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds can be to all Australians. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Magda on this script, along with the leadership and collaboration from our amazing creative partners at 72andSunny.”
The film will run on TV, BVOD and Online Video, supported by a wider integrated marketing campaign for the Google Pixel 7 across OOH, radio, online and social.
The campaign follows other work from the 72andSunny and Google partnership this year for Pixel, Search and the AFL.

Rack off Rachelle!!!
Bravo, so good.
I’ll be imitating better adverts from a few years ago
What an icon. Rack off Rachelle! I’ll be adding that to my vernacular
Crack open the Tia Maria, this is gold!
Great stuff Gen
Why can’t sharon be in every ad, always. This made me laugh on a Monday. GREAT WORK.
I’m going to be using ‘Rack Off’ almost constantly, as it’s a considerably less confronting phrase that ‘fuck off’ and a believe I might be able to get away with it in research debriefs.
Onya 72.
Great talent, weak ads. COuld’ve been so much better.
All the 72&S Google stuff has fallen into this same trap – sell in a good celeb/athlete/talent and then don’t know what to do with it after.
Couldn’t you get Sharon to dance for you?
Rack off tiktok!
Admittedly their Google work has won campaign of the year and ad of the year at two seperate shows so, you know. It’s working.
the comedy?
Magda is hilarious as usual and a great choice. But more importantly, am I – a ride or die Apple user – considering a Pixel phone? I need Magic Eraser in my life
That Sharon is a ‘beloved Australian character’ speaks volumes about how as a nation we embrace stupefying, daggy mediocrity. And I expect I’ll be pilloried for saying that.
time to leave now. Go back to polishing your lions from 1983.
I guess people don’t care about what you have to say as much as you think they do.
this made me giggle.
Please enlighten us.
Base comedy delivered flat.
Sure, you could criticise this for being a little unoriginal etc etc but hats off for making a funny product demo that real people will enjoy watching.
Much more fun than the normal lifestyle wank you see flogging phones.
‘Punters will love it,’ yeah?
Why Sharon? At least the Uber Eats spot made sense having the odd couple of Sharon and Kim play off each other but this… why? Someone please tell me why!
I find magda szubanski in commercials etc incredibly distasteful and off putting. Can she never be a polite or well mannered individual for a change? I cringe watching her in every commercial she appears in. I find it really upsetting for this person to not be representing Australians as someone to aspire to. Very Sad. Sorry Magda.
Not a fan of a ad that has now has my children run around the house screaming “rack off”
Disappointing this is how we protray Australians.
