MADC LAUNCHES NEW CRAFT SERIES, ART OF CRAFT

The MADC’s Art of Craft series will let creatives roll up their sleeves and pull apart some of the country’s most inspiring work alongside the Craft Artists that made them.

The intimate workshop sessions run a few times a year. They’ll host legendary Craft Masters as they share their wisdom with legends in the making, covering wildly different topics in each session – from composing video game soundtracks to unlocking emotion through editing or the sonic science of a ‘sting’.

The exclusive tight-knit, hands-on environment is an opportunity for Melbourne’s creatives to learn from the best in the business, but this isn’t a TED Talk. It’s about the devil in the details. The nittiest gritty, practical education that blends real-world experience with skills that most of us can only dream.

Says MADC Co-President Matt Lawson: “When the new committee came on board last year, we set the MADC a simple purpose – to inspire and conspire. Inspire great work and get people together in the hopes of making more of it. Art of Craft looks to do both of these things, and also, create a library of content that will live on beyond the workshops for all to enjoy.”

Adds departing Director of Education Matt Bladin: “The internet has no shortage of resources to read, watch, and listen to, but there’s nothing more inspiring than rubbing shoulders with the best at what they do.”

Says new Director of Education Dan Sparkes: “Craft inspiration has transformed. It once was about finding the types of individuals who used a scalpel to cut film, audio, and even retouch. It showed experience. Now, it’s about filtering through the many makers to find the best voices. Matt and the MADC committee have done an incredible job of being that connective tissue for anyone lucky to join us for these intimate workshops.”

For launch, the MADC has enlisted the twisted thinker behind Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House of Fun, Max Miller, to teach us the Art of Directing Visual Comedy. Things could get weird.

It’ll be held at Deloitte Digital at 5 pm, 19 October.

Tickets are strictly limited – available for purchase here. MADC is a volunteer Not-For-Profit with all proceeds going to run the MADC program with a donation made to a charity of the Craft Artist’s choice.
