Uniting launches original podcast series ‘Oldie Goodie’ part of a new campaign via Banter

After almost a year in the making, Uniting has launched a six-part original podcast series to unlock the secrets of growing old and staying happy, part of a campaign developed by Banter.
What can psycho-sexologist Chantelle Otten tell us about sex when you’re older? What can certified blue zone expert Dr. Tim Crowe share when it comes to the learnings from centenarians? What can veteran and much-loved Australian TV icon Ian Smith (Harold Bishop in Neighbours) tell us about ageing in front of the camera?
Growing old is one thing; it’s going to happen, but knowing how to age well and gracefully, is the subject of a new and entertaining podcast that offers some sound advice and unexpected tips.
Oldie Goodie is a six-part podcast series that explores through the eyes of experts the positive side of the ageing process including wisdom, reflection, love and care.
Created by Uniting NSW.ACT, Oldie Goodie features TV host Nicky Buckley, Uniting’s Matthew Ferguson and clinical psychologist Melissa Levi who will be joined each week by a special guest for a deep dive into all things ageing.
The first episode, to be available from today, features veteran TV actor Ian Smith, known for his role as Harold Bishop on Neighbours, who opens up about his career and life, while providing some handy advice on the aging process that will resonate with everybody.
Says Buckley: “I’ve spent a life growing older in the public eye on television and I’m proud to bring my personal perspective to the Oldie Goodie podcast. Self esteem is important for us all, no matter what stage of life we are at and my learnings over my career and personal life definitely applies here.”
The second episode, to be released simultaneously, offers inspiration for those dreading retirement, as veteran photographer-turned musician Richard Crawley helps navigate what is often called a “second wind”, uplifting older people in the community and showing why post-work life doesn’t mean any passions for life need fade.
Topics in following weeks will feature food, nutrition, love and relationships and sex – all designed to help you understand and appreciate the benefits of growing older, while busting some of the myths.
In episode three Dr. Tim Crowe will tell us what we can learn from the ‘Blue Zones’, where people live longer than average , and what we can learn from those countries and cultures.
Episode four features psycho-sexologist Chantelle Otten, frankly exploring love, sex, relationships and friendships and what they look like as we grow older.
Episode five talks to Dr Sarah Winch on death and offers some practical advice on how to give people the most beautiful and meaningful send off.
The sixth episode brings Felicity (Flick) Palmateer and her dad Warrick together with raw discussions of triumphs and obstacles of different generations and living life in the spotlight.
Says Paul Den, Co-Founder, Banter: “This project has truly been special. After spending days in the recording studio, I immediately changed the way I saw older people and realised that I had a lot to learn when it came to listening, empathising and supporting older people. I genuinely believe every single person who listens to this podcast will think differently about their parents, grandparents and even the neighbour down the street. I can’t wait for Australia to hear Oldie Goodie!”
The Oldie Goodie podcast will be freely available on all major podcast channels or www.oldiegoodie.com.au with new episodes following each week.
Oldie Goodie was brought to life in partnership with the team at Whooshkaa Studios.
