Madeline Kelly joins Rabbit’s roster of directors

After three years living and working in New York, award-winning filmmaker Madeline Kelly, has returned to Australia with a refreshing perspective on telling evocative stories with a big heart. Her work crafts exhilarating visual narratives that unpack the human experience, from real, scripted, performance driven or visceral, she tackles some of life’s biggest emotions with a veracious energy.

Her latest work with “When Will She Be Right?” for The United Nations was not only hugely celebrated online on International Women’s Day but has already been nominated for six OneShow awards with an exciting awards season ahead.

Kelly’s emotionally compelling short film Nineteen premiered at the Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival winning Audience Award for Best Film and then won Best Film at Melbourne Queer Film Festival. Her short films have screened at 20+ prestigious film festivals internationally, most notably Palm Springs International Film Festival and Iris Prize in Cardiff, Wales – the largest prize in the world for LGBTQI+ films.

Her commercial work in the US for Pantene was nominated for several AICP and OneShow awards and has established Madeline as a sought-after talent both in Australian and internationally. Madeline is now attached to her first feature which is currently in development, while continuing to work commercially in Australia.

Says Alex Hay, co-EP of Rabbit: “We partnered with Madeline and The Monkeys this year to produce the “When Will She Be Right?” campaign for the UN. Watching the way that Madeline built on the agency script and executed it was inspiring. She’s an incredible addition and we feel very lucky to have her as part of the Rabbit family.”

Says Kelly: “I’m thrilled to be back in Australia and honoured to find a home at Rabbit because I feel a genuine synchronicity between what we strive to create. We’re living in a time where people are seeking hope and promise of a stronger future. I’m craving collaborations that lean into the power of the collective conscious by telling stories full of heart and full of hope.”
