CD Alex Wadelton to launch The Melbourne Shuffle Marathon for Lighthouse Foundation
With Melbourne continuing to be under lockdown due to COVID-19, Melbourne based creative director (and raver from back in the day) Alex Wadelton has launched a youth homelessness charity campaign based around iconic dance move, The Melbourne Shuffle.
On Saturday September 12 from 2pm, Wadelton is dancing the Melbourne Shuffle for 42.195kms to make people smile and to raise money for the 44,000 young Aussies who aren’t lucky enough to even have a home to be locked-down in. It should take around 8 hours to dance the full marathon.
When people donate they can then join in the live stream and dance along with Alex to the tunes from DJ Sam Hopgood as the distance danced is measured via pedometer.
All funds raised will go to Lighthouse Foundation, a Melbourne-based charity whose mission is to end youth homelessness.
The Melbourne Shuffle originated in the underground Melbourne rave scene of the last 80s and 90s at events such as Every Picture Tells A Story, Earthcore, and Teriyaki Anarki Saki, at venues such as Altona Sports Centre, Shed 14, and Global Village.
Here’s how it works:
1. Go to https://www.melbourneshufflemarathon.com/
2. Donate at https://give.everydayhero.com/au/the-melbourne-shuffle-marathon
3. Leave a song request when you do.
4. Spread the word.
5. Join in the live stream between 2pm and 10pm on Saturday September 12.
6. Go off like a frog in a sock.
7. Help end youth homelessness.
To paraphrase that great philosopher, Fatboy Slim… EAT. SLEEP. RAVE. DONATE.
With thanks to:
Sam Hopgood for the tunes.
Ed Bechervaise for the hektik logo.
Ryan Brett, Kate Reynolds, and Hannah Byrnand from Manimal Post for making the video.
Reece Ryan, Kops, Justin Kabbani, and Dan Monheit from Hardhat for the best website since 1993 and the rad advice.
Michael Ciccone from Truce Films for helping with making the stream happen.

Sienna Barton, Lulu Harrison, and Karli Allen from Lighthouse Foundation for being legends.
Sheridan Wadelton for supporting this nutbaggery.

Onya Alex.
Can’t wait to see this session kick off.
Now that’s my bag.

Look at me. Look mummy look, look mummy mummy look look mummy
Great idea. Great cause.
Killer!
Great initiative Alex, with your creative stamp all over it no less. And ignore that singular troll @Mummy mummy who tragically obviously has no
empathy or care for youth and children who through no fault of their own don’t enjoy the basic need of having a secure roof over their heads.
Onward.
This is ace. Nice work m8.
Such a great and crazy idea. Please wear a bio tracker so we can see how many calories you burn!
…but who’s got ’em?
And Sam Hopgood spinning tunes in da house? Too good.
“Hey @Mummy mummy what have YOU actually DONE to help anyone recently?”
Deafening silence.
Good on you Alex for DOING something good for other people less fortunate.
Awesome idea, Alex. Well done, mate. @Mummy mummy keep crying yourself to sleep at night.
Whoever wrote that ‘Mummy’ comment – you are a truly terrible and pathetic person. Some people get off their butts and make things happen. And others just write nasty comments.
Look! Here’s the guy I wanna be like when I grow up! Look at him shuffle!
