Symmetry Media launches longform arm with thriller ‘Intersection’ Channel Nine sale

Sydney-based production company Symmetry Media – headed by James Carr and Dean Ginsburg, in collaboration with cub films and Snorkel Studios’ Sean O’Reilly, have sold free-to-air TV rights to Channel Nine for INTERSECTION, a completed feature-length thriller written and directed by Samuel Bartlett.
Rest-of-world sales and North American distribution have also been picked up by US-based Breaking Glass Pictures this month.
Positioned as a nail-biting, Sydney-set kidnapping thriller, the film launched its official trailer this Tuesday, and marks Symmetry Media’s expansion from commercial advertising production into long-form entertainment.
Says James Carr, producer and CEO of Symmetry Media: “Longform production has been a growing capability within Symmetry, and this film could not have been possible without the support of our brand sponsors Renault, InStitchu and Alia Jewellery. We have a follow-up brand-partner documentary in production now, with more scripted projects variously in financing and at shooting-draft.”
The project stars Matt Doran (The Matrix, The Thin Red Line, Home and Away).
Says O’Reilly: “We’re delighted to be working with Breaking Glass Pictures on the release, and to share the film with Channel Nine’s audience – we’re looking forward to sharing this tense, confronting movie. Certainly given the current economic conditions and the reduced focus on content quotas in the broadcast space, our arrangement with Nine is a very pleasing outcome.”
As part of a broad production slate – the same producing team from Symmetry Media and cub films are presently shooting a feature documentary and financing a horror film.
O’Reilly is currently producing a sci-fi film with Happy Feet 2 co-writer/director Gary Eck, as well as a high-concept project with Joel Perlgut.
The team continues to seek commercially-focused genre and documentary projects that will resonate with international audiences.
