Crust Pizza sticks it to tradition in newly launched campaign via 303 MullenLowe Sydney
Crust Pizza has unveiled a new campaign from 303 MullenLowe that sees the Australian leader in gourmet pizza travel to Naples, Italy, the birthplace of pizza to prove that Crust is anything but traditional.
The new campaign “It’s not pizza. It’s Crust” launches nationally this month across on- demand TV, social, digital display, pay TV and OOH.
As part of the campaign, Crust plucked locals straight off the Italian streets, asking them for their thoughts on Crust’s “sacrilegious” version of the local dish.
The campaign captures the authentic reactions of these passionate pizza traditionalists as they experience Crust’s gourmet offerings the likes of Pesto Chicken Club, Peking Duck, Vegan Smokey BBQ Pulled Jackfruit and more. The film shows the Neapolitans’ anger to surprise, confusion to joy… and a small riot in a local marketplace.
Says Zoe Jacovou, marketing manager, Crust: “Operating in a such a competitive market, Crust’s comms always need to deliver an unfair share of attention for the brand – and this is exactly what 303 have delivered. We’re thrilled with the campaign which really captures our adventurous nature.
“Working with the integrated offering of 303Mullenlowe and Mediahub allows us great efficiencies by combining all creative, strategy and media buying under one roof.”
Says Scott Huebscher, executive creative director, 303 MullenLowe: “With this campaign we killed two birds with one stone. We repositioned Crust to its rightful place as the most gourmet, innovative pizza offering in Australia while angering and confusing over a million pizza- loving Neapolitans at the same time. It was a win-win.”

love it big time
Best stuff to come out of 303 in eons. Congrats to one and all.
..shame it came out of London though.
this is so so so fun. I can only imagine how good this would’ve been to shoot in Napoli.
Love this. Authentic, honest, no BS. Well done!
Nice
Yeah Molly!!!
Hardly original, even I did this idea when we launched bagels in Aus.
Irrelevant
Bravo! Finally we get to see an honest and truly cool spot to come out of the industry in a very long time.
Lovely work!
Great stuff 303 – great editing
Have to say, I’m with the Italians on this. Those abominations look disgusting.
Sandwich.
Good stuff guys! I’m hungry…
Tourist, definitely boys to watch! Great work all.
Yeah greeny. Sick!!!
Genuinely can’t hate on this. For what it is, it does it well. I really felt for this. Please keep work like this coming. Credit where it’s due.

Well done boys!
this is great! beautifully shot!
Nothing is original, but there is something freakishly similar about the subway one and this effort
The poster headline in the above execution should read:
“Just like Deutsch L.A and Above & Beyond London have made”.
I liked it and it would have been an ace shoot to be on. But then I saw that Subway spot.
All that budget and you couldn’t spend some time tweaking the idea a little?!!
Lazy AF.
I’m not sure if this is a blatant rip-off, the subway work came out only like 2 months ago. It looks like making Italians mad is in the zeitgeist.
The fact it’s been done twice already just shows how much of a first thought this is.
Can’t understand why it’s getting such positive comments above.
The point of advertising is to make me want something. All this ad does is remind me that Crust is really shit pizza and nothing like the Italians make.
Wow. Who on earth is going to watch 1.5mins of Italians being angry at Aussie pizza?
Such an unoriginal thought. So uninteresting in execution.
MMMM…..303 the ‘Creative Agency’ not so creative when you copy.
And the print is illegible. $HIT.
Lol it’s exactly the same as Subway you phoneys.
Have you guys heard of me? Next time you have an idea punch it in to my browser to see if it has been done before and how many times it has been done.
This work deserves an AWARD for……….
Plagiarism.

Subway did it better. Nice of the 303 guys to even rip-off the titles. Bless them.
Watch it better here: https://vimeo.com/366466318
I thought we did it better with this…

Bogan as. Subway still better though. Just sayin’
At school they teach you not to copy. Surely the client needs to question why the agency copied an identical version of the Subway spot. As a client don’t you go to an agency to create something new and original. If it was me I would ask for my money back or fire the agency.
It’s either stolen or derivative. Neither are good things. Shame, because it’s funny.
Guys you’ve missed the whole point here,
You are flogging a dead horse, the product
Is known in Australia and it’s way outdated,
You are just trying to sell the same product in
A different way, it does not work!
But we’ll done in getting the guys at RFG to like it
and making them think it’s a winner!!!
You’ve done your job, let’s hope you get paid!
