Skit Box’s collaboration with Christiaan Van Vuuren ‘Activewear’ spreads like wildfire
Christiaan Van Vuuren has co-written and directed a clip for all female comedy collective Skit Box, that has blown up worldwide overnight.
The piece lampoons the latest trend in cultural spin; wearing ‘Activewear’ for entirely inactive situations.
Uploaded on Tuesday evening, the clip has been viewed over 2.5 million times online, written about on Time Magazine’s website, as well as Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, Mashable, Pedestrian and numerous others. The clip was also featured on MTV and The Today Show in the USA this morning, and appears to be gathering momentum.
Says Van Vuuren: “I read somewhere that last year in the USA activewear made four times as much money as the rest of the apparel industry combined. I don’t know if that’s true, because I’m not a scientist, but every time I walk out onto the street here in Sydney, it seems as if 90% of women are wearing activewear, and they don’t seem to be doing very active things.”
Says Skit Box: “Christiaan is a misogynist jerk and we’ll never work with him again. He’s the Michael Bay of Youtube.”
The clip is the latest in what has been an impressive record of virals; a long line of Van Vuuren Bros created content that has tapped into the Zeitgeist, including The Life Organic, The Old Spice Man Song, and their I Bought a Jeep satire.
