VCCP Sydney ECD and creative partner Gary Dawson departs agency after three years
VCCP Sydney has announced that executive creative director and creative partner Gary Dawson has departed by mutual agreement.
Dawson joined the agency in 2016 after a four-year stint as a creative director at M&C Saatchi working across CommBank, NRMA Insurance, CPA Australia and wotif.com. Prior to this he was deputy creative director at Leo Burnett.
Says Dawson: “Being the ECD at VCCP Sydney has been a privilege and I’m proud of the work we’ve created together across a diverse number of challenger brands and creative disciplines. It’s been an exciting ride and I’d like to thank the team I leave behind for their brilliance and shared ambition. I’m particularly proud of not only winning but being nominated twice in three years, for AdNews Small Agency Of The Year, the multiple pitch wins and subsequent business growth as well as introducing an integrated design offering. With some great work in the pipeline, I wish VCCP and its clients all the best for the future.”
Confirming the departure, VCCP chief executive officer Andrew Holt said: “We thank Gary for his passion and energetic contribution to both our work and our business over the past 3 years. It’s been a pleasure working alongside him and we wish him well in his next venture.”
VCCP will announce plans for a replacement in due course.

Have worked with Gary. And he tried to make a silk purse from out of a sow’s ear at that place.. VCCP was greater for him.
Perhaps he’ll head to With Collective… Hear they are hiring smart people.
One of the good guys.
Enjoy the next chapter Gary. It’ll be perfect, because that’s all you aim for.
There’s a reason I like to call him ‘Awesome Dawson’ – top creative & bloke. Good luck, mate! Not that you need it.
One of the best creatives and just an all round top guy. Looking forward to seeing what the next chapter brings.

Good luck Gary, you can hold your head high. Not so sure about your other managing partners. Some fantastic work and wins. Look forward to seeing what you do next!
Definitely one of the good ones! Good luck for whatever is next fella, until then enjoy the time out.
Interesting the person responsible for some of the best work ING Direct, Comparethemarket and Fitness First have done, is the one leaving. Such a shame the VCCP network didn’t have the insight to fight for this one. They let the wrong man go.
Crazy. He’s kept that place alive! Good luck Gary.
