With iconic Australian export Neighbours airing its final episode last night in the U.K., Tourism Australia showed British viewers why there is more to Australia than Ramsay Street during a 30-second bespoke advert developed by CHEP and UM Studios, which launched during the grand finale on Channel 5 at 9pm.

The tactical placement features memorable scenes from the beloved program alongside breathtaking destination footage of iconic locations – including Uluru – to surprise and inspire viewers. In homage to the show, the end frame also uses Neighbours’ recognisable font for the word ‘Australia’. The advert is an adaption of the tourist board’s fully integrated Don’t Go Small, Go Australia campaign which launched in February to mark the return of international travellers to the country.

In the week leading up to the finale, the current campaign Don’t Go Small, Go Australia also aired daily during Neighbours on linear TV and BVOD.

A huge cultural moment for the UK and Australia, Tourism Australia has partnered with Neighbours production company, Fremantle, to develop the creative with CHEP and UM Studios and celebrate the series finale of the long-running soap.

Sally Cope, Tourism Australia regional general manager, UK & Northern Europe, said the Neighbours finale offers a unique opportunity to encourage viewers to visit Australia and star in their very own epic Australian adventure: “For the past four decades, the popularity of Neighbours has brought Australia into the living rooms of millions of UK residents. Now that it is ending, we want to remind fans across the UK who will no longer be getting their daily fix of Australia, that there are so many reasons to head Down Under and visit us.

“We have chosen to use some of the show’s footage featuring iconic characters that are sure to make fans smile, while showcasing some of Australia’s very own icons, including the Great Barrier Reef and Sydney Harbour Bridge. With vast landscapes, natural wonders and unique wildlife, there is a holiday for everyone in Australia. The bespoke advert is a celebration of Neighbours’ 37-year run and our way of inviting fans to come and say a warm “goodbye Neighbours, g’day Australia.”

The Neighbours grand finale aired on Friday 29 July at 9pm on Channel 5 (UK). Tourism Australia’s bespoke 30-second bespoke advert will also be available to view during episodes of Neighbours available on My5 Catch Up from 30 July – 7 August.
