Sheridan launches non-profit charity initiative #sleepsafe and campaign via TBWA\Sydney

Iconic Australian homewares brand Sheridan has partnered with homeless charity StreetSmart Australia to take a stand against homelessness. The launch of the SleepSafe initiative, a non-profit charity aiming to provide local shelters and refuges with much needed financial relief, has in the first week raised enough funds for 923 sleep kits to be donated to local shelters.

The major national campaign via TBWA Sydney, which launched in store last Tuesday, is built on creativity, collaboration and the genuine commitment of both Sheridan and StreetSmart. It aims to provide the simple comforts of home to those suffering, or at risk of suffering homelessness. With every $15 raised, a sleep kit including a towel and a sheet set, is sent to a local shelter where it’s needed most. Sheridan are subsidising the cost of the sheets and towels, partnering with suppliers to manufacture products using excess fabric.

Says Paul Gould, group general manager, Sheridan: “You can never underestimate the benefits of having clean bed linen, a fresh towel, a shower and a bed to sleep in for the night. The worst day of someone’s life can turn into the first day of the rest of their lives with the simple comforts of home and a safe night’s sleep. The launch results are nothing short of amazing, and I’m really excited to see what we deliver in the coming weeks and beyond.”

After months of research and planning, the SleepSafe initiative has started raising funds indefinitely, with an initial goal to provide 25,000 sleep kits to Australians seeking assistance from local shelters.

At a local level, donations have commenced with 100 kits sent to Youth Futures in Western Australia. Youth Futures is a local service that aims to help young people overcome adversity by empowering them to change their lives for the better.

Says Melissa Porter, homelessness services manager, Youth Futures: “Generally, most of our community are unaware of the extent and reasons behind young people experiencing homelessness. More often than not, they have been mistreated by the very people and systems who were supposed to nurture, support and protect them. Youth Futures support hundreds of young people each year who may be sleeping rough, often in very risky situations. We’re able to provide a safe place to sleep and to bathe which has an immediate impact on their physical and mental health. With the bonus of the sleep kits at our service, we’re now providing a safe place which is cosy and fresh, enabling them to journey forward with pride and optimism. The positive impact this has on our young people and the broader community is almost immeasurable.”

Sheridan customers can donate online or at any Boutique or Outlet store. Donations in your local area can be tracked using the map on the SleepSafe homepage.
