Senior editor Joe Morris joins The Butchery
The Butchery Editorial has announced that senior editor Joe Morris is joining its roster.
“After years of friendship and collaboration, we are excited to finally welcome talented editor and all round nice guy Joe Morris home to The Butchery Sydney,” says Freya Maddock, executive producer, The Butchery.
With a career spanning 20 years both in Australia and internationally Morris’ storytelling represents the breadth of advertising, categories and genres. His wealth of experience and strong technical skill set has allowed him to weave seamlessly between drama, comedy, fashion, live-action and CGI projects. His passion is nothing short of infectious and a swag of awards is testimony to his dedication to editorial craft.
Morris has been recognised around the globe with accolades at Cannes, The One Club, AWARD and Spikes Asia to name a few. This year Joe was awarded the Ellie for Best Commercial for The Foundry at the Australian Screen Editors Awards, as judged by his peers. His work on the TEDx opening titles has been selected as a finalist at SXSW for 2 years running.
Morris has also edited a number of successful films and documentaries including The Craft which was awarded Best Fiction Short at The One Club, and The Real Bangkok Hilton which won the prestigious Peabody Award and remains one of BBC’s highest rating documentaries on British Television.
Says Morris: “The Butchery represents a high level of creativity and commitment to the craft and I’m proud to work alongside some of the industry’s best editors. As a place where I have the freedom to take on editorial work in all its forms, The Butchery is a perfect fit for me.”

This doesn’t even mention 1/10th the awards Joe has won. Best pre-vis editor, best narrative editor, best vfx-editor I’ve ever worked with and his knowledge of the end-to-end post process gives him the edge when working on complex jobs. Bonus: he’s a super nice guy. I have yet to hear anyone say anything negative about Joe, so if the vitriol appears on the blog here, attribute it to people being jealous of someone who has mastered the craft. Congrats to the Butchery for snagging him.
Top bloke and top work Butchery for getting him on the roster.
Hands down one of the best editors in Australia and a great collaborator when we work together. Congrats to both Joe and The Butchery. //Thirteen & Co
Echo all of these sentiments. Congratulations Joe and The Butchery. All round ace human and one of the best editors around!
Hard to think of a person with more talent, work ethic and commitment to making great things. Also a lovely, humble human. Well done Butchery.
Great stuff Joe!!!
Wooo!! Wonderful news, couldn’t be happier for such a talented editor who is truly passionate about the craft. Congratulations to Joe and The Butchery!
I come for the eyegasms he gives me with his devilish dexterity.
Not a bad editor either. 🙂
