Queensland creative industry’s ‘Assisterhood’ mentoring program doubles its reach in 2019

A leadership initiative launched last year in Queensland to attract and mentor young women joining the advertising industry has doubled in size for its 2019 program.

The Assisterhood 2019 Mentoring Program launched this week and has attracted more than 80 young up-and-coming creative women from Youngbloods, Universities and early career makers as potential mentees.

Many of Queensland’s leading creative-industry women have volunteered as mentors in the program and offer extensive career experience in skills including digital, creative, design, media, social and production agencies.

Says Simone Waugh, co-founder of Assisterhood and managing director of Publicis in Queensland: “Assisterhood was born to address the gender imbalance in creative industries and help women navigate their choices from their early career days and through the challenging mid-career years. We want young women to know we’ve got their backs and we’re going to ensure equality is the norm for them rather than the exception as it was for us.”

Says Linh Diep, chair of Youngbloods Queensland: “Youngbloods’ purpose is to empower the next generation of young people to kick-arse in advertising. The Assisterhood initiative directly feeds into this goal and we couldn’t be more thrilled to support and be involved with the cause.

The 2018 program was created by Publicis Groupe as part of its VivaWomen! program.

Assisterhood 2019 has now expanded to involve leaders from across other agencies in the industry.

Assisterhood 2019 will match Mentees with Mentors:
