Qatar Airways appoints Melbourne independent agency Town Square to drive Qatar tourism
Full-service agency Town Square has been appointed by Qatar Airways to encourage travellers to stopover on their journey and discover what Qatar has to offer.
The Melbourne independent agency has been tasked by Qatar Airways and its destination management subsidiary, Discover Qatar, to launch two global marketing campaigns targeting people travelling through Doha’s Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways is one of the world’s leading airlines, winning the Skytrax ‘Airline of the Year’ award in 2019 for a record fifth time as well as being named ‘World’s Best Business Class’. It operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft connecting travellers to more than 160 destinations around the world.
Says Danielle Moeller, founder and director, Town Square: “We’re honoured and delighted to be partnering with two world-leading organisations in Qatar Airways and Discover Qatar. Qatar is one of the most exciting and innovative countries right now, and with the 2022 World Cup on the horizon, the world is soon going to turn its attention to Qatar and discover what we already know, that it is a truly special place.
“This is a major win for Town Square and reaffirms our strength in tourism and destination marketing. It provides us with amazing opportunities to showcase the depth of our creative and strategic capabilities as we drive to be recognised as one of Australia’s leading independent agencies.”
Says Steve Reynolds, senior vice president at Qatar Airways: “I know first-hand the strength that the whole team at Town Square has at using robust consumer insights and category defying creativity to help drive businesses success. We’re excited about our partnership and how it can drive growth in visitation to Qatar.”
Town Square has already started work on the projects which will be launched later this year.

Number 1 airline in the world. That’s a big win, albeit that’s some unfortunate timing with the whole ‘global pandemic’ thing. Still, congrats.
Amazing work all, congrats to Brendan and his talented creative team. Big things in the future for this lot.
Didn’t even know this was on the market. Big win – will be interesting to see what actually they can do in the current climate.

Well down Town Square.
A great win.
Doh! Ha-ha.
That feels like the sort of win that in normal times is a total game changer for an agency.
Not sure how the state of the world right now might impact on an airline & tourism account, but regardless, an impressive win for an Aussie indie
What a massive win for an indie who doesn’t attract the normal indie negativity.
Hope it will be a long award winning partnership
You’re dealing with the Qatar Government and like any Middle East bureaucracy, they do as they please. If they decide they don’t want to pay you, they won’t, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Take precautionary measures so you don’t get burnt!
is easily the best airline i’ve flown. Hands down.
I don’t know how an agency i haven’t heard of snagged it but congrats.
Also, this is your time to fly. Go hard
This is probably the biggest new business win of the year for an Aussie agency? And it’s an agency i’ve never heard of (albeit that I am in Sydney, so maybe that’s part of it?)
Either way, congrats to you guys. This is one of those accounts that literally every agency in the country would kill to have.
Actually not every agency in the world would kill to work for them. Do a little digging and it won’t take long to learn some pretty awful stuff about Qatar. Be very, very careful Town Square.

By any measure, Qatar Air is the number 1 airline in the world. I wager most people in adland will have flown with them at least once. Those that do tend to never want to fly with anyone else.
So, you may be right. But you know what? I stand by my opinion that literally any agency in Aus would jump for this chance. And that’s what I said, ‘every agency in this county’, not every agency in the world. (Sure there would be loads in Tel Aviv that would say no for example).
But that’s just my opinion,
Yeah… As happy as I am for the success of my fellow Melbournian’s… but after what was reported today led me to input ‘women assaulted Doha’ into the search engine.
“13 Australian women undergo involuntary invasive strip searches, 2020. “
“Dutch women sentenced for reporting that she had been raped, 2016.”
“Female domestic workers regularly abused in Qatar: Amnesty report, 2020.“
This is just what made the first page. How can a country be considered ‘safe’ when the laws, practices and culture of that country are so discriminatory. For the future of air travel, it might cost a little more (an probably a bit of comfort), the ethical choice should be #boycottDoha
