My Most Immortal Ad: Ali Rez and Graham Turner Explore 25 Years of Absolut Advertising

In the run up to the entry deadline for this year’s Immortal Awards, our jurors have been taking it in turns to select the ads and campaigns that are most immortal to them, revealing the reasons why they’ve stayed with them until this day.

Immortal Awards juror and regional ECD for MENA/Pakistan, Impact BBDO, Ali Rez somehow managed to whittle down the best part of 2000 executions to just one favourite ad from Absolut’s long-running print campaign.

Opting for San Francisco, a nod to a city he loves, Ali’s choice was really a selection for the whole campaign rather than one single piece.

Co-created by Graham Turner, the campaign was launched by TBWA in 1980 and spawned a quarter of a century’s worth of variations, cementing itself in popular culture whilst selling a hell of a lot of vodka along the way.

Ali and Graham joined The Immortal Awards’ Paul Monan to explore the campaign’s origins, it’s legacy and the reasons why it was able to run and run…

The Immortal Awards entry system is now open. Every member of Little Black Book is entitled to up to five entries, depending on their membership tier. This year, Bronze members receive two entries, whilst Silver and Gold members get five entries. The full list of rules, including eligibility dates, can be found here.
