Miss Bossy Boots photographer Heather Dinas can usually be found creating beautiful portraits and sumptuous food imagery.

However as Melbournes lockdowns continued, Dinas channelled her creative energies into a new series “Cactus Flower”. A beautiful collection of images inviting the viewer to stroll with her and her young daughter as they discover hidden gems within their neighbourhood.

Cactus Flower is currently being digitally exhibited alongside other international photographers, as part of the group exhibition These Days – Works in Isolation.

Dinas discusses her project: “During isolation the world stopped and took a breath. After the initial shock and fear dissipated we were left to find a new rhythm. Time slowed down to a quiet hum. Every where there were signs to beware, to draw lines and guard our outer gate.

“As the amenities were all closed my 3 year old daughter and I wandered through the neighbourhood streets. She drew us into the present moment, to pause and revel. Her joy and up close enthusiasm created bridges of connection. Passing strangers would stop and talk rather than walk on by. The serendipity of these fortuitous meetings, made us feel welcomed and enhanced our sense of community.”
