Mint Films snaps up social media storytelling pioneer and director Hannah Lehmann

Sydney based comedy and drama director, Hannah Lehmann has joined Mint Films’ roster alongside Andrew Seaton, Tom Spark, Tristan Houghton and its collective pot of freelance directors. Lehmann has created incredibly successful work for an impressive list of clients including Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Says Abby Dorrian, new business manager at Mint Films: “We are beyond excited to welcome Hannah, the vertical queen to our team. Oozing confidence, creativity and originality, Hannah is a uniquely modern storyteller who is raising the game in a world of multi-channel connections and communication. I’m confident Hannah’s fresh approach and ideas will likely earn her work a place in popular culture”.

Lehmann caught the attention of Snap Inc’s head of content in the US following the release of a self-made horizontal pilot on Facebook Watch which amassed 6.5million views overnight. She was ultimately commissioned to write and direct Two Sides in 2019 under their Snap Originals banner – the first and only Australian to do so. The series, made to be viewed vertically, follows the story of a young couple’s break-up and uses a split and stacked screen format allowing viewers to switch between narratives without missing a beat. According to Snapchat the series was “a landmark success” and thus commissioned Lehmann to write and direct a further two seasons in the US which landed on the billboards of Times Square.

After writing, producing and starring in Australia’s first drama series made exclusively for Instagram, The Out There, Lehmann went on to write and direct comedy series, The Unboxing for Facebook Watch and Channel Seven. Currently in development on a TV series with Easy Tiger (Saving Mr. Banks, The Principal, Jack Irish), it’s clear this young Sydney Filmmaker’s star is rising.

Says Matt Samperi, EP, Mint Films: “It’s obvious to anyone that Hannah is a talented storyteller, and her ability to tell those stories to a digital audience is impressive. We’re incredibly excited to see how she will flourish in the commercial industry.”

Says Lehmann: “Mint Films and the people who run it are incredibly perceptive, and understand the importance of storytelling and connection in their work. When they approached me about representing me commercially, it felt like in an instant match, and I’m so glad to be working with this lovely and hardworking team, in whatever format that may be.”
