Michael McEwan has been promoted to CEO of M&C Saatchi AUNZ in a move that reflects the development of a new national structure that enables greater client accessibility to M&C Saatchi’s deep and diverse talent pool.

McEwan joined M&C Saatchi Melbourne as managing director in late 2019 and has led the agency through a significant phase of business and creative growth expanding the client portfolio to include the Victorian Government, Origin and World Vision Australia. In March 2021, McEwan and Sian Cook were appointed as joint national managing directors. Cook will soon be relocating to the UK and continue to have a consultancy role in the business.

With over 25 years’ experience, McEwan has worked with some of the world’s most progressive brands locally and internationally. An impact leader, the consistent theme of his career has been his focus on spotting talent and building exceptional teams, enabling people to come together to achieve outstanding results for clients, the agency and themselves.

McEwan reports to Justin Graham, CEO M&C Saatchi Group AUNZ.

Says Graham: “Michael has gone from strength to strength within the M&C Saatchi Group. Now elevated to the CEO role, he will run at multiple new business opportunities with our borderless creative offering.”

Says McEwan: “I’m excited about the opportunity to further help lead M&C Saatchi’s growth, bringing our diverse and specialised thinkers together to create more brilliant work and exceptional outcomes for our clients. Every day I’m reminded that creativity is still the single biggest competitive advantage in business, playing a powerful role in achieving big ambitions.

“Equally, our industry in partnership with our incredible clients provides a unique responsibility and platform to have a voice to drive positivity and progress. It’s what I believe those in our team care about and where they want to focus their talent and energy. Opportunities to make a difference and apply our creativity are all around us, it’s certainly an exciting time.”

The national restructure began earlier this year with the promotion of Emma Robbins to national executive creative director, reporting into Cam Blackley, chief creative officer. McEwan’s new role will come into effect as of January 2023.

Says Robbins: “I am super excited about the new structure and working to bring more connection and specialisation across the Group.”

This promotion comes on the back of a big year for M&C Saatchi with new business wins for SLYP, NSW Department of Education, Federal Government Department of Social Services and WorkSafe VIC. As well numerous effectiveness and creative awards for Minderoo Foundation’s Thrive by Five content and digital campaign and shortlists for Big W, Hire Up, BWS and CommBank. M&C Saatchi has also been shortlisted for Victorian Agency of the Year and National Agency of the Year.
