Hype Republic joins forces with FINNS Beach Club and Red Bull to create action-packed film in Bali
Hype Republic, the team behind some of Australia’s most ambitious video projects in recent years, has struck again launching a high-energy viral edit of Japanese street trials rider Tomomi Nushikubo performing incredible stunts inside Bali’s iconic FINNS Beach Club.
Hot on the heels of its groundbreaking work with Australian metal band Parkway Drive, and a world-first BASE-jumping video off the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere, the Hype Republic team worked closely with FINNS, Red Bull in Indonesia and Nishikubo to create this latest larger-than-life video.
Hype Republic director, Allan Hardy ACS, says the main vision of this latest project was to create something that surprised people and brought together the best of multiple, seemingly conflicting worlds: “Everyone loves the vibe and party atmosphere of a beach club, and to bring bikes, trials-riding and incredible skills into that setting just elevated the energy,” says Hardy. “That’s what made this project so enticing – combining that energy and intensity of a pumping beach club with great stunt sequences and lively storytelling.”
FINNS marketing manager, Chris Loock says the video project was an opportunity to showcase the club’s partnership with Red Bull in Indonesia as the largest on-premise seller of Red Bull in the country: “For me, this is more than just a piece of world-class content,” he says. “It’s a collaboration and partnership with Red Bull that aligns our audiences and pushes the limits of what we can do on a global scale.”
Creating a video that combined groundbreaking riding in an intense club environment was a challenging exercise for the Hype Republic team, particularly the task of executing the project safely for both Nishikubo and the club-goers.
“As soon as you walk through the door, FINNS is like walking into a crazy New Years Eve party, and it’s like that every single day,” explains Hardy. “Our biggest consideration is always safety and we worked with the FINNS team to look at everything from the structural integrity of the buildings right down to the lifeguards at the pool.
“But even with everything safe and secure, riding in that environment with lighting, crowds, smoke machines going off, was a sensory overload for Tomomi. We had to be really mindful of that.”
Every day of the three-day shoot required several hours of prep and practice, then up to four hours of filming and choreographing once the club filled with punters. To help bring it all together, Hype pulled in a couple of stunt and safety crew members with experience pulling off huge Hollywood productions.
“The vibe between the club, marketing teams, Tomomi, our film crew and Red Bull was full of energy and everyone was keen to pitch in to make this a success,” says Hardy.
“FINNS provided an incredible playing field, and Red Bull provided an athlete who was so fun and infectious to be around. When everything comes together like that, it’s such a thrill to be part of.”
The FINNS x Red Bull project wraps up a huge year for Hype Republic, with the team deep in the post-production cycle of a range of feature films, documentaries and commercial campaigns. At the same time, there are some exciting new projects in the pipeline, and 2026 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet for the Gold Coast-based company.
