AI Meets Spaghetti Western in new music video for James Reyne’s ‘Going Back to Nashville’ via Taxi Film Production ~ directed by Colin Renshaw
Australian rock icon James Reyne has released a brand new music video for his single “Going Back to Nashville” – and it’s a Spaghetti Western shootout like no other.
Produced by Taxi Film Production and directed by Colin Renshaw (Co-Founder of Alt.vfx), the video reimagines Reyne as a lone cowboy torn between the honest life and the pull of the Nashville money machine. But rather than shoot on a dusty practical movie set, the team saw an opportunity to explore the hot topic of AI as a creative production solution and leaned on generative AI tools to conjure sweeping saloon scenes, standoffs, and gun-toting characters.
“AI gave us scope we couldn’t afford otherwise,” says Renshaw. “From location and wardrobe to action sequences, it allowed us to go bigger than our budget would ever allow – or as Col calls it, ‘making a $3M music video for a tiny fraction’.”
Despite the tech-forward approach, the tone of the video is pure classic Western: dusty, dramatic and unashamedly fun.
“James loved it from the moment he saw the early renders,” Renshaw shares. “He trusted the process. That’s what made this work… we were all in on the idea.”
The project mixed multiple AI tools and custom workflows, with Renshaw experimenting relentlessly along the way: “Some tools worked for days, then died. Others were magic on minute one. Every shot was a roll of the dice. But that’s the fun part, that creative chaos.”

“Music videos are the perfect playground for AI,” says Renshaw. “You can pivot and improvise. More than anything, you can just have fun with it.”
