120 Melbournians flock to St. Kilda for MADC’s latest talk with M&C Saatchi ECD Emma Hill

A hundred and twenty Melbournians filled St. Kilda’s Local Taphouse to capacity for the latest MADC Presents talk by M&C Saatchi Melbourne ECD, Emma Hill last night.

Hill’s talk stepped the audience through milestones in her career, through the lens of ‘This is it!’ moments. From humble beginnings on reception at Clemenger Hobart, a stint in accounts service, her pivot to follow her passion and become a creative, to her rise through the ranks to become a creative director. Hill’s talk was peppered with highs and lows – and an underlying message that even though you may think milestone moments are the big ‘This Is It!’ events, they are actually just stepping stones along the way.

Says Adrian Bosich, MADC president: “When I saw Emma give a version of this talk at last year’s Award School graduation, I saw how her stories connected not only with the students, but established creatives as well. The talk was such a refreshingly honest perspective on the industry, about fiery passions, maddening obsessions, lofty heights, crushing lows, and on balancing work and family – all framed through Emma’s unique voice – and I knew her story would also resonate with the broader creative community.”

The talk was filled with Hill’s career life lessons. These included how to nurture creatives, creating authentic relationships with teams and clients, how to leave a place you love, and how to brave change.

The MADC Presents night sold out in a record three days, and has become a strong fixture of the Melbourne creative community. The 50 minute talk was followed up by another half an hour of questions from an audience eager to learn more from Hill’s experience and evolving perspective of the industry, with questions covering creative blocks, ageism, equality and how success can be measured.
